Body of Corp. John S. Dutton Laid to Rest in Oak Grove Cemetery

The first body of a Blount County soldier who died on foreign soil has been returned and interred in the soil of his boyhood days beside the remains of relatives and firends who have also passed over the river.

It was the body of Corporal John S. Dutton who died at Brest, France, on Oct. 20, 1918, five days after he landed.

The body arrived in Oneonta Saturday morning and was carried by the "Legion of Honor" consisting of D.F. Prickett, Coy Shelton, C.H. Davidson and Grady Whitten, and three representatives of the Red Cross--Misses Sarah Chambers, Carrie Stone and Mildred Stephens--to the home of the young man's father, John Dutton, on route 1, Bangor, where the remains were laid to rest in Oak Grove cemetery Tuesday.

A very impressive funeral service was conducted by Rev. T.N. Martin in the presence of a large circle of friends who had gathered to pay their respects to one who had died in defense of his country.
