Most of these people have ties to Butler County. The Hitsons and Franklins had family living in Butler County.  The Hitsons are descendants of Riley Hitson.  Some of the Franklins are descendants of Josiah Franklin, believed to be buried in the black looking tomb with no marker.  His wife is buried next to him.

Addendum submitted by Lisa R Franklin, 4 Sep 2008:
While it is true that Josiah has a wife and daughters with other surnames buried there, the majority of Franklins buried in Fairmount are NOT descendants of Josiah Franklin.  Instead, they are descendants of Thomas Franklin born c1760-70 who died c.1829 in Covington County, AL, (through his son Willson Franklin) and also had descendants in Greene and Tuscaloosa Counties in the northern part of Alabama.  William Franklin, whose marker photo appears on this page, is William H. Franklin, grandson of Thomas and Nancy Franklin.  His brother John Franklin (my gg grandfather) and family are also buried in Fairmount.  The Mollie and Julia Franklin in photos on this page are daughters of William H and Eliza Franklin and great-granddaughters of Thomas & Nancy Franklin.
