WILLIAM M. PRICE. Am looking for this individual as part of my family line. I note a William M. Price patented 40-acres of land in Clarke County on 5/10/1861. The William M. PRICE that I am looking for was born on 11/19/ 1819 in GA/AL/VA? He married Martha Ann PELT in Meridian, MS on 11/3/1842. She was born in GA(?) on 11/23/1818. I know they later were located in Lawrence County, MS and later on in Catahoula Parish, LA. They had 7 children. The youngest was James Beauregard PRICE, my grandfather. The only other info I have is that a William G. PRICE swore that Martha Ann was of marrying age at time of marriage. Was William G. related to William M? Help if anyone can. I can supply further info on line of James Beauregard, and names of the seven children of William and Martha. Briscoe Price/Raleigh, Ms

Hello, If anyone can assist my family with this soon we would be greatly appreciative. We have two ancestors who lived in CLARKE COUNTY, AL in the late 1800s and we see in old family pictures what appears to be FREEMASON pins on their lapels, but we are not certain. Probably in Thomasville, but could possibly have been Grove Hill where they were members. I will give the two men's names and dates to someone who can assist us with this puzzle. We would like to know what degree they were too if that is information that could be given to family members. If not, then knowledge of their membership would be helpful so we might know more about them as persons--they are both long deceased. Thank you,

Briscoe Price  Tue Aug 25 18:11:29 1998

PRICE/PELT This is in followup to my earlier query regarding William M. & Martha Ann Pelt PRICE. The 1840 Federal Census has a Henry PELT listed, ant the 1850 Census has a W.J. PELT listed. Could these families have been related to Martha Ann PELT who married William M. PRICE in Meridian, MS on 11/3/1842? I have found the PELT surname to not be a common one in my searches, so I believe there could have been a connection. A William G. PRICE swore that Martha Ann was of marrying age. I have not been able to find any of these folks in any census for this and immediate surrounding areas. There is a possibility that Martha Ann was born in Georgia. I am still at the brick wall on this one, so if anyone can/will help, would be greatly appreciated. Briscoe Price/Raleigh, MS

Richard BUTLER  Wed Sep 23 15:25:54 1998

The 1860 census for Clarke Co, AL listed a Mary BUTLER as head of the household (widow) age 42 from GA. The children listed include Samson H. BUTER borne in Monroe Co, AL. This census also list a PRESNALL family with a daughter Martha. My question - is there any records of a marriage between S.H. BUTLER and Martha PRESNALL and if so was there any record of a child from this union. The child would have been James G. BUTLER borne in 1866. Martha PRESNALL May have died between 1866 and 1870 and young James could have been left with his Grandmother Mary BUTLER, now 53 , as shown by the 1870 census which does not mention Sampson H. BUTLER Any information about this BUTLER family will be welcome!!

Looking for any information on Rev. William CAMPBELL, who was the minister at Ulcanseh Church in Clarke County, just across the river from Choctaw Co., AL. Rev. CAMPBELL was the minister there when he died in 1877. We have been unable to locate he and his wife(Martha's) grave in Choctaw Co. We have been told that there was a cemetery that was flooded when the Lock & Dam project was completed and that there was a "lot of CAMPBELLs" buried in that cemetery. Does anyone have any information on this or a listing of who was buried in that cemetery? Any information would be appreciated.

Singleton b. ca 1827 - - Rebecca Singleton (possibly Watson) 2nd marriage: Martha - - Harrison b. 1845 - - Martha b. 1846 - - Charity E. b. 1850 3rd marriage: Elizabeth A. - - Solomon J. BELLINDA MYRICK BARNETT  Tue Jan 26 09:11:29 1999

Hello, I am diligently looking for my MYRICK ggggrandparents, Elizabeth PIERCE/PEARCE and William MYRICK, born abt. 1800, parents of William H. MYRICK and Aquilla MYRICK and another brother, poss. named John. William H. MYRICK, my gggrandfather, married Phoebe Catherine HERRINGTON, dau: of Cynthia GRANTHAM and William HERRINGTON, Jr. and they had son Calvin Pierce MYRICK who married his 3rd cousin, Harriet Katherine 'Hattie' HARRINGTON/HERRINGTON, dau: of Isom/Isham Daniel HARRINGTON/HERRINGTON. Isom's wife was Rebeccah DIXON/DICKSON. Isom was the son of Enoch HERRINGTON who married Harriet STUCKEY. I think there is a strong possibility that my line descends from John Carroll's daughter who married MYRICK, Francis,....was that Susannah or Rebeccah. I have...just not in front of me. I have one uncle named Johnny Carroll MYRICK. I have another uncle Callie O'Neal MYRICK, a cousin Jimmy/James Love MYRICK and a cousin, Rendford Carroll Rodgers. So I thought that some of the other names I see on the Clarke County Census of 1816 might be connected. There are other names I saw on the Clarke Co., AL website on census and tax rolls that these names as surnames and, sometimes, first and middle names, are the following: O'NEAL, (poss. Bridges related,) LOVE, (poss. Robartis, Robert related,) Neeley, (poss. David related,) Pearce, (poss. Lewis related,) Coleman, (poss. William related,) Dixon, (poss. Absalom of Allen related,) Parker, King, Mimms, Middleton, Goodwin, Jones....all possibly related. If you have any connecting information I would be most grateful. In advance, I thank you.

Deborah Clarke Hollingsworth  Thu Feb 11 15:40:07 1999

My grandfather, Clarence Gray(Grey) Clarke was born in Fulton, Alabama (Clarke Co.) in 1903 or 1904 - to a William Alexander and a Florence Viola (Fendley) Clarke. 'Willie' and Florence were married in Fulton in 1901 by a Rev. Fendley. Willie also had to have written permission to marry, since he was underage. His parents were Robert Gray and Sallie Belle (Hall) Clarke. Robert Gray died in Fulton in 1902 and buried in the small cemetary on the hill, down the road from the 1st Baptist Church. Also, my grandmother, Eloise Pitman was born in Clarke County - Selipica, Alabama(close to Coffeeville) as a matter of fact. Eloise was born in 1905 to Orlando Beale and Sallie Belle (Cleland) Pitman. Olando Beale went by "Bud" and rumor has it that he ran the little store on the highway. Both Bud and Sallie went to college, he went to a military school. Olando Pitman's parents were John I. Pitman. I'm not sure of Sallie Belle Cleland's parents, but I do know she had a brother, Sam Cleland, who was sheriff of Clarke Co. in the 1940s. Family rumor has it that on Sallie Cleland Pitman's side of the family, married a 'Burks' from Mobile. She lived in a large house on Government St. and during the Civil War -- her family had to hide the silverware in the lard and put it down the well. The yankees found most of it, but my ggrandmother gave all her daughters 1 piece of the silver engrave with the letter 'B'. I did see the spoon my grandmother had when I was little, I just can't find out whatever became of it. Any info on the Clarke, Hall, Fendley, Cleland and Pitman family, It would be greatly apprieciated. Deborah Clarke Hollingsworth
