1862 at Camp McDonald near Marietta, Georgia, recruited its members in the

in the 1930's. He was about 67 years old at the time & hadn't

the country" for weeks, then one day she'd see him coming over
the farthest hill from her house.

and Eliza /JONES/, 7-23-1879 in Blount Co., Ala.

Dist., Stewart Co., Ga., died 2-15-1899 in St. Clair Co., ALA.,
and was buried in County Line Cem., atop Straight Mtn. in Springville,

Springville, St. Clair Co., Ala., died 2-20-1988 in Smith
Co., Tx. at age 95, and was buried bullard Cemetery

Research Notes:
Grover Curry's 48 acres of land was the middle tract
of a 142 acre tract of land that Hezekiah Jefferson Wilson
bought around 1895 as speculation - he had a growing family
and the children would need places to live.
(GROVER purchased an additional 10 acres from McNeil's.)
The east 50 acre tract was known as the 'Moody Place'
although Moody was not a family member. The middle tract
was sold to George Hilton Massey and his wife, Nancy Jane
Keen, GGrandparents of Carolyn McCall. The Massey's
bought the land not long after Hezekiah purchased it.
On the west side was the 42 acres. Lawrence Clements and
his wife, Lucy Wilson Clements (Carolyn's great aunt)
first lived on the 42 acres. Then John B. Gordon Wilson
and his wife, Laura Emily Massey, lived on the 42 acres
where their first two children, Ernestine and Geraldine
were born.
Around 1905, the Massey's moved to Tyler and John and
Laura Wilson bought the 50 acres and moved into the house
and (probably) their first son, Gordon Wilson was
born there. For sure, Otis Wilford Wilson b. August 22, 1909,
Edrie Mae Wilson and Bonnie Sue Wilson were born there.
GreatGrandma, Millicent Maria Hinds Wilson, died in 1908.
By 1916 at age 75 Hezekiah Jefferson Wilson was ready to
retire. He no longer needed the farm income as he had his
Confederate service pension to live on. He offered John
Wilson the 'home place' if he would come and take care
of the youngest son, Wesley W. Wilson and so they did.
Grover & Effie Pearl Sandridge Curry then bought the 50
acres and they moved into the house.
The story goes that Grover had a WWI veteran boarding
with his family (Otis or Jake Dennis?)
and they came down to see John Wilson and the boys
planting tomatoes and this veteran was telling about
his war exploits. Otis Wilson was only about 10 years
old and the stories of our American boys having to fight
the Germans in hand to hand combat scared the pants off of him.
It made a lasting impression on him.
Otis Wilson told Kevin McCall about a buggy trail on the
50 acres, used primarily by country doctors to go from
farmstead to farmstead. It was the road (or trail) that
the Curry's used to go visit the Wilsons & others.
