We understand that the next Teacher's Institute for this county is to
be
held at Royal.
Produce and barter taken in exchange for drugs at Mitchell's Drug
Store.
Let every citizen of the town resolve to make this a progressive year
for Oneonta.
Blount County Teachers Institute was held at Hanceville the latter part
of last week. On account the bad weather the attendance was very poor.
Col. H.F. DeBardeleben is making preparations to open up a coal mine
about 9 miles above here. A large force of hands are to be employed in
the mines. The railroad is to be extended from Champion to the new
mines. A preliminary survey has already been made.
Mr. Robert and Thomas Groen, of Groens, arrived in our berg Sunday.
The case of Collie Daughdrill vs. the State of Alabama, appeal from
Etowah circuit court has been affirmed by the Supreme Court. Daughdrill
is under sentence to hang for murder.
John Franklin, a saloon-keeper at Reeds Gap near Wrrior was shot and
killed at Watts Mines last week. A negro by the name of Perkins is
supposed to be the murderer. Franklin is the man who killed Howard
about
a year ago.
Those who want to subscribe for the DEMOCRAT need not hesitate because
they haven't the money, as country produce is a legal tender for
subscription at this office.
