John W. Davidson The Southern Democrat, 31 Dec 1908 Hall of Dry Creek Lodge No. 626, A.F.&A.M., Cleveland, Ala. Whereas, in the providence of God, the death angel has visited our Lodge and removed from our midst our friend and brother, John W. Davidson, on December 14th, 1908, therefore be it Resolved, That the Fraternity has lost a true and worthy member. Bro. Davidson had served the lodge for quite awhile as its secretary, and was at the time of his death its honored chaplain. He was a man who was ever found ready to fill his sphere in life as a brother and a friend. Not only was he a Christian and a Mason in name but in deed, ever striving to live these great principles of Temperance, Fortitude, Prudence and Justice. Never more on earth will be wear that emblem of innocence, that badge of a Mason which we place with his remains, but may its pure and spotless surface be to us an ever present reminder of a purity of life and rectitude of conduct, a never ending argument for noble deeds, for higher thoughts, for purer actions and when at last our weary feet shall have come to the end of life's toilsome journey, and from our nerveless grasp shall drop for ever the working tools of life, may the record of our life and actions be as pure as spotless as the fair emblem which he so delighted to wear,—and to the bereaved family we would say, let us take courage and press on that it may also be said of us "Well done, good and faithful servant; enter thou into the joy of thy Lord."
