Flem Jordan Duke

F. J. Duke, who was born in Butts County, near Jackson, Ga., on October 11, 1853, died at his home in Oneonta Thursday of last week at the age of eight-three years, nine months and sixteen days.

Mr. Duke joined the Baptist Church in St. Clair County when he was about thirty years of age and moved to Blount County a short time later. He was a good, quiet man who attended to his own affairs, leaving other people alone.

The deceased had been in declining health for about three years and became seriously ill but a few weeks ago, growing steadily worse until the end came last week.

Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Lucy Duke; one son, Turner D. Duke, of Birmingham; one step-son, George T. Motes, of Oneonta; two daughters, Mrs. Emmett Franklin, of Gadsden, and Mrs. Davis McDaniel, of Gadsden; and one step-daughter, Mrs. R.M. Cox, of Oneonta; and four grandchildren, Justine Franklin, Mary, Pauline and Turner Duke.

The Funeral was held at the Oneonta Baptist Church Friday afternoon, Rev. B.F. Dykes conducting the services, with Robinette directing. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.
