Joe N. Smith Dead
At 2 o'clock, Thursday morning January 16, Mr. Joe N. Smith closed his eyes in peaceful sleep at his home in Pendleton, S.C., aged 63 years. Mr. Smith was one of Blount's former good citizens, having left this county twenty years ago. He was postmaster at Liberty, Blount county, several years; where he had many relatives and friends. A few years ago he came back here and married Mrs. Leta Hipp, mother of the late Senator Hipp, she being his second wife, who survives him. The deceased was a consistent member of the Missionary Baptist church for 47 years. This good man was a friend of every one who knew him and went about doing good. He was a brother to Mrs. S.C. Davidson, mother of the editors of the Journal, and a brother of Frank P. Smith, Esqr., of Liberty, who reached Pendleton in time to attend the funeral. Interment took place at Sandy Springs cemetery. Peace to his memory.
