NORTH CAROLINA SERVICE OF CHARLES HOLT AND MARTHA HOLT WIDOW W7756

DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR CLAIM FOR MILITARY SERVICE:

I certify that, in conformity with the law of the United States, of 17
June 1844 and 2nd Feb 1848.  Martha Holt deceased widow of Charles
Holt who was a private in the Revolutionary war was entitled to a
pension at the rate of $28.33 per annum commencing 19 September 1847,
and terminating 11 May 1854 when she died.  And that the comunt due as
aforesaid, is payable to
     JOHN HOLT:  ADMINISTRATOR for the benefit of
himself WILLIAM HOLT: REBECCA WALKER: JAMES HOLT: CATH TAYLOR: MARTHA
GOODWIN: KENDEREL L. HOLT: ELIZABETH GRIMELL and any other surviving
children
     This certificate issued in lieu of those dated December 29, 1855,
which were payable to the widow and which have been cancelled.
     Given at the department of the Interior this 15 December 1856.

                           ---BLOUNT COUNTY ALABAMA
FEB 2, 1856, - in the town of Blountsville 2 Feb 1856--came John Holt
heirs and distributer of the estate of Martha Holt late of said county
decd, and makes application - letters of administration on said deceased
estate, as next of kin and it appearing to the satisfaction of the court
here be proof; that deceased died intestate; and that the said John
Holt as next of kin of said deceased; is entitled to letters of
Administration on said estate of said Martha Holt deceased.

                       COUNTY OF BLOUNT: ALABAMA

On 6 July 1833 Charles x Holt appeared age 71 states on 15 Sept 1780 he
was enrolled as a private drafted militia man in Capt Benjamin Moore,
late a Lieutenant at Gates defeat, in under Col Wm Moore of N C Militia
company - resided in Granville Co N C and marched at Hillsborough N C
then to Salisbury thence to Cataba river and stationed one month at the
old Nation Ford on the Big Catawba river,; states HE WAS BORN IN PRINCE
WILLIAM COUNTY VA March 30 1762.  I lived in Granville Co N C when called
into service and since the war I lived ten years in N C in Granville Co
and Franklin Co thence removed to SOUTH CAROLINA and lived 12 years in 
SPARTINBURG CO in Georgia and lived there about seven years and then
moved to state of TENNESSEE and there resided about 7 years and in
DIXON CO and HICKMON and RUTHERFORD COUNTIES and from thence removed
to BLOUNT CO ALABAMA where I have resided ever since and continue to
reside at this time.

     ***seperate paper:  KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENCE that I, Martha
Holt the widow of Charles Holt, who was a pensioner of the army of the
war of the Revolution, constitute and appoint R.B. Roberts of ALTAMONT
TENNESSEE my true and lawful attorney 1854 April 7. 
signed Martha Holt.
     When she made declaration in 1854 she stated she was married to 
Charles Holt in Franklin County North Carolina 15 Februrary 1785 by
Britton Harris a J P who published the same, there being no license 
granted in that day as she things.  Her oldest child was named William
was born on Xmas day in same year and is now 68.

     --WILLIAM HOLT made affidavit in Blount Co Alabama 1854 Apr 20.
He was then age 68 and states he is the oldest child of Charles and
Martha Holt and that his father is the identical Charles Holt who was
a Revolutionary pensioner on the Alabama pension rolls and drew $28 per
annum at the Huntsville agency up to his death and died Sept 1847 leaving
his mother the said Martha a widow and that his mother had nine other
children besides himself, five of whom was his brothers, John the oldest
and Kinderal the youngest of them is now living in Blount Co Alabama, that
his brother John above is about five years youner than he is and his
brother Kindel who is next to the youngest of age of his brother and 
sisters is about twenty years younger than he is;  that he was born 1785
on Xmas day, and that his father and mother lived together until his
father died and often heard them say he was born in same year they were
married.

        AFFIDAVIT OF JOHN RATLIFF MADE IN BLOUNT CO ALABAMA
30 July 1854 stating he was acquainted with Charles & Martha Holt and
knew them in Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama, that they are his uncle
and aunt and he has lived near by them ever since he can recollect anything; 
that Martha is about 80 years old now and that he is well
acquainted with the children of Charles and Martha Holt, that Wm their
oldest who now lives in adjointing county Blount, to this is an old man 
about 70 that he was grown when this affiant was old enough to recollect
any thing.

      -----AFFIDAVIT MADE IN JEFFERSON COUNTY ALABAMA
     By Margarett Spradling age 70 -  know them for over 50 years;
that she first got acquainted with them in Georgia in Franklin Co about
the time their youngest son named Kindreal L was born;  she lived a
neighbor to them for several years in Ga, that they all moved to Lincoln
County Tennessee and lived in same neighborhood there for several years
and from there they moved to Alabama, JEFFERSON CO, where they lived in
same neighborhood for some years and until Holts moved to BLOUNT adjoining
to this and where Charles Holt died.

States he saw them married in Franklin Co N C  1785.

     A letter from Blountsville, Ala 1856 from John Holt states his mother
died May 1854.
