The fifth child born to Guttridge and Elizabeth Cheatham and also an ancestor of mine was:

5.Patience Cheatham (#177 member of Moriah Church) first married a Cox (first name unknow) and they had one son, Odom Cox.

It appears that Patience Cheatham's first husband may have been Gillman Cox.From Book B, page 117, Edgefield Co., South Carolina, we find the following estate records for Sollomon Cox, Dec'd.

Thus Odum Cox, dec'd. was not the father of Odom Cox, a son of Patience Cheatham Cox.

Patience's second husband was Robert McCoy, a brother of Joseph McCoy #78 and John McCoy #94.Patience and Robert McCoy lived in the Antioch Church area.Robert died before 1850.Patience was born c. 1810 died in May 1860 and Odom Cox was named as administrator of her estate.Patience was sick for four days.The cause of her death was unknown.From the 1860 Mortality Schedule Patience was a "Fench-Maker". Her property was in Sections 29 and 32 of Township 11 Range 15 and was to be sold on December 22, 1860.This property was north and northeast of Antioch East Baptist Church.Julia McCoy #210 was a daughter of Patience and Robert McCoy. 

The estate of Patience Cheatham Cox McCoy, 12/3/1866, contained Confederate Treasury Notes valued at $4,562.08 with interest of $1,885.15.See Vol. 8 of the Estate Records.More on the estate will follow at the end of this chapter.

Odum Cox married Martha Seale on December 23, 1856, a daughter of Anderson Seale and Polly Armstrong.See Anderson Seale Family and the Armstrong Family.Samuel Adams was a witness to this marriage.Samuel Adams was a teacher, lawyer, a Colonel of the 33rd Alabama Inf. Reg, and was killed during the Battle of Atlanta.Odom and Martha had two sons, Jesse and Edward Cox and two daughters, Mary and Emma (married a Burgin).Jesse Cox married Anna Williamson #313.Odom Cox was born c. 1826 and died in March of 1869.Odom Cox was a second lieutenant in the second Bat., twenty ninth Regt., eight Brig., eleventh Div. of the Alabama State Militia. He was elected on June 23, 1849.Martha's second husband was Lorenzo Gresham and their children were Fannie, Dell, and a son.Martha's third husband was Mr. Motes and they had a daughter, Lillie.Martha and her son Edward are buried at Spring Hill Methodist Church.Jesse and Anna Cox are buried at the Huxford Baptist Church in Huxford, Alabama which is north of Atmore, Alabama.

Before the undersigned came Odom Cox Admt. of the estate of Patience McCoy dec'd. who being sworn on oath says, that the Confederate Treasury Notes ($4,562.08) accompanying his account current for annual settlement, was received in due and bona fide administration of said estate and in payment for the personal property & assets of said estate, and that the same has never been used in any manner by him for private use or any one else, and that the amt. of int. thereon should be allowed him as a credit.

On page 505 of Volume 8 we find the following list of children of Patience McCoy which is given by John R. McCoy on Nov. 22, 1867.From this document we see that there were eight children (6 sons and 2 daughters).

There is Odom Cox, John W., Wm. Henry, Elizabeth, Julia, Samuel, Hillary and James.They are all over the age of Twenty one years.Elizabeth is married to Daniel Sheppard.They were all of sound mind.Odom Cox lived in Butler Co.Elizabeth Sheppard lives in Louisiana.I don't know where Julia A. is.The rest are all dead but their children live in Butler County.They alone were all the heirs to said estate that I know of.

There is a Julia McCoy listed in the Land Records for Louisiana.She purchased land from the U.S. Land Office in Grant County on 2/21/1890.I don't know if she is from Butler Co.
