Richard B. "Dick" Register, age 55, of Des Arc, (*AR), former owner of Northside Welding, died Sunday, Nov. 5th, (*1989) at a Searcy hospital following an 18 month illness.  He had been a resident of Des Arc for years, where he owned and operated a welding business, doing welding and fabricating.

Born in CHAPMAN, ALA., he moved to Palatka, Fla., where he lived until he started to work as an iron worker.  In this profession, he worked for Bethlehem Steel for many years in construction of bridges, highrise buildings, and oil pipelines.  Retiring from traveling from state to state as an iron worker, he worked in the mountains of Colorado and Montana as a sheep herder before moving to Des Arc. While enjoying the solitude of sheep herding, Mr. Register did some writing of his life's philosophy in poetry form.  He learned over a year ago that he suffered with inoperable cancer but continued to work until less than a month ago.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Louise Sexton Eoff Register; one brother, Marion Register of Palatka, Fla.; one sister, Mrs T(h)eresa Burdett of Brandon, FL.
