EVANS posted by Paul Wood on Sunday, March 8, 1998

I need records showing the names and information about the parents and children of the W. P. EVANS family listed in the 1840 census living in Benton (now Calhoun) Cl., Alabama. The person I am interested in is a William EVANS, believed to have moved his family from North Carolina to Alabama before their son Zackary EVANS was born, in 1837. The W. P. EVANS is listed in the 1840 census is probably that William EVANS family. The family is listed in the 1850 and 1860 census records living in Mississippi. Willaim Peter EVANS, William and Elizabeth EVANS' grandson, Zachary EVANS Son, in his obituary is quoted as stating that his paternal grandfather was a "Scotch-born Schoolmaster". Perhaps he came immegrated to North Carolina after he was born in 1808.

CAT, HODGE, TIDWELL, WESTON posted by Joan on Saturday, March 21, 1998

I am searching for a gg grandfather they would have been in the Benton County area pre 1840. He was married to Elizabeth Julia Hodge WESTON. I have been unable to find his name. He had children Moses Riley WESTON born circa 1826 in Morgan county, AL and Jasper Newton WESTON circa 1828, and Nephanny WESTON circa 1833, these are only known children. Family stories had that Elizabeth Julia WESTON had a child before this marriage to a WESTON named Lydia HODGE who would have been born circa 1820's and later married Calvin (CAT) TIDWELL of Blount county, AL. Elizabeth Julia WESTON owned and operated mills in the Big Spring VAlley area of Marshall county, AL pre 1840. Court papers show her summoning all neighbors with land around her that she posed no known health hazard by building a dam on the spring at Big Spring Valley. She operated mills in Blount county, AL and rumors were she had operated one with her husband in the Benton county area pree 1830. Does anyone have any connections to the WESTON's in Benton county (Calhoun) in the early pioneer period?
