house in Benton Co. Marriage performed by a "Squire KIRBY." Henry J. BRYANT
was born in Spartenburg S.C. Might be related to the BRYANTs of Spartenburg.

James P. BRYANT were born in Alabama. Any info will be greatly appreciated.
FOSTER, Looking for information on Felix FOSTER, from what we know he
was supposed to have been the Mayor of Anniston Ala. possibly around 1884
(this is supposed because of a clock a family mamber has from the courthouse
with that date inscribed) I have been told his picture was also hanging in
the courthouse at one time but not sure if it still is. Felix had one
daughter by the name of Elizabeth Minnie FOSTER who married MCREYNOLDS.
Elizabeth also had a sister by the name(or nickname) of Tiny, who married
into the LOCKRIDGE family. I have very little other info on this family and
would love to find more.
Searching for information on family Alex,CAHILL which is listed in 1850
Ala Census for Benton Co.,AL. Alex CAHILL was 42, male from Tenn. Is anyone
researching this family? Does anyone know where they could have moved to? I
am searching for the father of my Grandfather, John Jackson CAHILL b 1870.
His death cert. lists an Alee CAHILL as his father. The Alex CAHILL family
has a son, W. A. who was 10 yrs old in 1850 census. Could this be the
father? Would like to hear from anyone researching CAHILL in NE Alabama.
STOCKDALE. I am looking for information on Jefferson F. STOCKDALE and/or
his wife Eliza DYE. They may have moved to Calhoun County from Talladega ~
1870. Especially interested in a daughter, "Willie" (Wilhemena?)
My great grandfather was Berry BOWEN. A part of his 1916 obit reads "
that in 1854 Berry Rollins BOWEN was born in Rutherford county, N. C., his
parents dying while he was a lad of 13 years. He came to this county
(Whitfield County, GA gp) in 1874 at 20 years of age, and began his work as
a teacher in the county schools. two years previous to that time he had
united with the Baptist Church. ... His only trip back to North Carolina was
when he returned to his former home in 1899 to place a tombstone over his
mother's grave. ... He is also survived by one brother, D. C. BOWEN, of
Alabama, ...." I have strong suspicion that D. C. is Doctor Craton b. 1856
NC, married in Whitfield County in 1877 and moved to Calhoun County, AL.
Will someone check a cemetery book for me. He would have died 1916 or later?
Help! I just came across a poorly photo-copied picture of a group of
Confederate veterans (circa 1900, about 33 veterans in 2 rows, 1st row
kneeling and 2nd row standing) from Calhoun and Cherokee county entitled
"Shades Of Civil War Days.&Quot; My great great grandfather John Wesley
JENNINGS (of Rockrun, Cherokee County) is in the front row! I don't know
where the picture came from, but believe it might have been a newspaper or
magazine published somewhere near Piedmont. Does anyone know where this
picture came from so I can get a better copy? Other veterans in the picture
were from Rock Run, Spring Garden, Centre, Goshen Valley, and Mount Zion.
Any clues would be much appreciated. John Roberts

1. My mother's mother, Birdie EASTERWOOD, married Enoch Jesse STEPHENS.
I think they were married in Concho Co., TX on Dec. 24, 1913. I suddenly
realized the other day that I have never gotten a copy of their marriage
license. My grandmother told me that she was 14 when she got married and
that they eloped on Christmas Eve. My grandfather died 12-31-1948 of heart
problems. That was before my mother was married. My grandmother lived with
us from the time I was born until I was 12. She played a very important part
in my upbringing and was a great blessing in my life. She died in May of
1976 at age 77.
2 and 3. Nathan was in the 1870 Census in Madison Co. You'll find him on
page 256. My grandfather Joseph was 7 years old at the time. The 1870 Census
is the last record I have of him. In 1880 the family was on the Calhoun Co.
Census, ED 9, Sheet 23, Line 18. I don't know when or where he died. Nathan
fought in the Civil war for Alabama. He was a private in Co. G, 1st Reg't
Alabama Cavalry. This cavalry was the escort of a General Joseph Wheeler. Do
you see where my great-grandfather got his name?
4. Nancy HARMON was the daughter of John M. HARMON (1808 - 11-23-1844) and
Lucy GOSSETT (ca. 1808 - Feb.-1870). John and Lucy had 10 children. Five of
the six boys died from the Civil War. It shows how horrible the war was. I
have other information on the Harmons if you are interested. Nathan and
Nancy are mentioned in a will dated March 20, 1848 so they were married
before then. In 1848 she was 20 years old and he was 19. I can't find them
on the 1850 Census. Their oldest child on the 1860 census was about 4 years
old. By 1860 they had been married at least 12 years. It makes me think that
they could have had other children that died. By 1900 she was living with my
great-grandfather Joseph. My great- grandfather married Mary Jane BRANDON in
Waxahachie, Ellis Co., TX on January 12, 1889. My grandmother was born on
3-4-1899. On the 1900 census, her name is listed as "Baby". Her parents
didn't name her until another baby was born a couple of years later. So for
two years, my grandmother didn't have a name. That 1900 census is Ellis Co.,
TX ED 16, (I don't know what sheet, it got cut off in the photocopy). My
great-grandfather developed what they believe was tuberculosis. A 2nd cousin
of mine and I believe it may have been lung cancer instead. There have been
lung problems in the EASTERWOODS. Some had lung cancer, my great-grandfather
supposedly had tuberculosis and my grandmother had emphysema. Smoking
probably contributed to the problems but I wonder if there is some genetic
predisposition to those problem? Do you find that on you EASTERWOOD side?
Nancy EASTERWOOD died on October 23, 1905 in Ellis Co. close to Palmer if
I'm not mistaken. That was the month of her birth so she was about 77. I'd
like to visit her grave. The family eventually ended up in Eden Texas (Concho
Co.). My mother was born in Eden.
5. John B. EASTERWOOD and his wife Jemima are in the 1850 census. You'll
find them in Spartanburg Co., SC, page 203. Her initial are J. I. Living
with them was Elizabeth (a daughter?) aged 16, and John aged 2. Were both of
these their children? Surely not since the age of John and Jemima was 58 at
the time. This is probably the J. R. EASTERWOOD, minor, mentioned in the
Sept. 23, 1859 filing of the Old Estate records of Benton (Calhoun) County,
AL. Please help me out on this. I tried to get an original copy of this
estate record. I wrote the State archives in Alabama and they told me that I
would have to write the county. I wrote the county and they said that they
didn't have the staff to make copies but to contact an outside research
firm. Do you have copies of that record? All I have is an abstract. Also, on
Sept. 28, 1857 there was an administrator appointed for the estate of John
EASTERWOOD (same county). Do you have those records? This J. R. EASTERWOOD
was apparently the same 2 year old mentioned in the 1850 census. He was
apparently the son of Luasia Ward (Louisa perhaps?). Was she the daughter of
John and Jemima? Did she marry a Ward? What happened to them. It would seem
that the young John would have been John Ward not John EASTERWOOD. I really
would like to get copies of these court records.
Here are some of my questions:
1. The John who married Jemima, what does his middle initial "B" stand for
and where does his birthdate of August 21, 1793 come from? How do you know
that his father was William?
2. Where do Williams' birth and death dates of 1768 - 1834 come from? Where
is his wife's name found? Some additional information: Lawrence's wife name
was Susannah. I have a copy of old land transaction where both had to sign.
The earliest record of Lawrence I have is where he bought land in Anson Co.,
SC in Sept. 1762. I guess I don't have copy of deed that he witnessed in
Edgecomb Co., NC in 1764. He later had claims from the Revolutionary War.
Copies of the original slips are here at the Houston Library on microfilm
but I haven't copied them yet. Some were so faded that you couldn't hardly
read them. I need to copy them. I have some copies of memorial deeds of land
descriptions mentioning EASTERWOODS in SC. The last record I have on
Lawrence was a debt on judgement on June 6, 1792 found in the Union Co., SC
Common Pleas & General Sessions Minutes of the Court 1790 - 1796. A Michael
CRAWFORD apparently hauled him into court for a debt. I assume that he died
soon thereafter. Susannah later brought a suit against a William QUINN for
slander. This is found in the Union Co. Clerk of Court Minutes of the Court
of Common Pleas 1800-1810. This took place in March 1806. She won a
judgement against him for $100. He never paid and she died. After she died,
her son John apparently tried to collect the money and assaulted William
QUINN. Quinn took him to court and won $10 for assault. John took Quinn to
court in 1818 to collect the money due the estate of his mother. Quite
exciting isn't it? There is probably tons of information in the Union and
Spartanburg counties court records if only we could get to them. Sincerely,
I am looking for information about the family of James Henry HUMPHRIES

I have just started a HOLLINGSWORTH Family Tree. My parents were both
born in Calhoun County AL. I was removed from AL when I was about 5 years
old and without my father. Can you furnish any info on John Henry Wilburn
HOLLINGSWORTH and his siblings? He was born around 1900 and died about
1983.His last wife's name was Lois. Her status is not known to me at this
time. Thank you for any help you can provide.
