BYSTROM, LAGERSON posted by Mark Benner on Monday, July 3, 2000

Being a LAGERSON descendant, I've hit a dead end(?) Would like to hear from another LAGERSON descendant / relative / researcher in Calhoun County. My ancestor was Rev. Victor E. LAGERSON of Aniston, Alabama. In the 1896 Anniston City Directory, he was listed as "retired", no mention of his wife. Would like to know where he is buried, (most likely Aniston). His son, William LAGERSON is buried in Edgemont Cemetery, Aniston, but no stone on his plot. No record of his wife, Christine (BYSTROM) LAGERSON, either. William and Christine, Swedish born, were my maternal great grandparents. Sure could use some help here! benner@clinic.net

ABNEY, BLACK, COOK, HUGHES, JONES, MORGAN, SLAYTON posted by Jan R. Bell on Wednesday, August 30, 2000

BLACK/JONES/HUGHES/COOK/ABNEY/SLAYTON/MORGAN families in Calhoun Co, AL, I am seeking my ancestors' final resting place. Peter BLACK b.1791 in SC m. Elizabeth ABNEY (she b. 1788 in SC). They probably married in Edgefield District, SC ca. 1812. They moved to Meriwether Co, GA and then on to Calhoun/Benton Co. AL. Peter BLACK died 18 August 1865 and is buried at White Plains School Cemetery in Calhoun Co, AL. His wife, Elizabeth died after 1860 and is buried beside her husband. This family had ten children and several of them also moved to Calhoun/Benton Co. Al. I am interested in their daughter named Lucinda J. BLACK (born 1822 in SC) who married James S. JONES (born 1812 in SC). They lived for a while in Meriwether Co, GA where maried 15 Dec 1840. In 1850 census, they were in Carroll Co., GA. After that I lose them, but wonder if they moved on over to Calhoun Co, AL where other members of their family settled. Lucinda's sister married John William JONES (he b. 24 Nov 1818) and I wonder if he was brother to my Lucinda's husband, James S. JONES. John William JONES and his wife, Sophronia S. BLACK who m. ca. 1837 in GA lived many years in Benton Co, AL. Later they moved to Cherokee Co, Texas and died there. A brother of Lucinda and Sophronia was William D. BLACK b. ca. 1829. He also moved to Calhoun Co, AL and died there after 1860. Another brother--Whitefield BLACK b. ca. 1825 m. Matilda E. HUGHES in Benton Co., AL 30 Oct 1850. Another brother, Daniel S. BLACK married Julia A. MORGAN 20 Dec 1855 in Benton Co., AL. A sister, Emeline BLACK b. ca. 1817 m. Wm. James COOK in Calhoun co, AL 21 Dec 1867. There were several other brothers and sisters but I do not know if they ever moved to Alabama--Nancy BLACK m. Wm ABNEY; Paul Picken BLACK d. 1864; Wesley Mark BLACK m. Narcissa E. SLAYTON; Francis T.B. BLACK (a male)b. ca. 1834. All of these BLACKS were descended from James BLACK b. ca. 1765 in VA and his wife Mary b. ca. 1769 in SC (probably Edgefield). James & Mary BLACK were the parents of the above mentioned Peter BLACK. I know where Peter and his wife Elizabeth ABNEY BLACK are buried, but I do not know where Lucinda Black JONES and her husband James S. JONES are buried. Does anyone know where they are buried? Or if they are buried at the White Plains School Cemetery close to Peter and Elizabeth BLACK, Lucinda's parents? Though I do not have much information on my JONES family yet, I believe they may have migrated to Calhoun Co. Al too. I also have more information on the family tree of Elizabeth ABNEY. Would love to share info with anyone working on these families. Thank you!
