Between 1843 and 1847 John DUCKETT and family, Melissa, Sarah, Mary A. and Elizabeth became members of the Mt. Pisgah Church of old Benton County, AL located near Piedmont. The church later became Shady Grove Church The church records show that John DUCKETT died in June 1845. Sarah DUCKETT later shows up on the 1850 census residing in the household of the William McELRATH family in Cherokee Co., AL and her year of birth was computed to be 1825 and place of birth as TN. CAMP MCCLELLAN, 1917-1918... My grandfather worked there as a civilian carpenter during the years above and we have two stamped time cards to prove it. Can someone tell me how to go about getting camp information for that period? In old letters home, my grandfather wrote that a near riot broke out when the men thought they were being fed horse meat instead of beef; that he witnessed a man being dragged down a street because he refused to buy war bonds; that a disease hit the camp (fever of some kind) and that several of the men died in a very short span. My grandfather was Edward M. ROBBINS. Thanks, Fred

LACKEY, REYNOLDS, BOOZER, JACKSON Looking for the parents of William LACKEY b Feb 14 1831, died 19 Sept 1902 Morris County, Texas. He married Nancy REYNOLDS in 1853 either Dekalb or Jackson County, ALA. They lived in Dekalb and Jackson Counties, Alabama. Their daughter, Eliza Jane LACKEY married William Henry BOOZER. WH BOOZER is the son of Geroge Washington BOOZER and Sarah Jane JACKSON. I suspect William LACKEY is related to brothers William LACKEY (wife Nancy SPEAR) and Adam Allen LACKEY (wife Lydia CAMPBELL) both of Dekalb County, Alabama. Suspect William b 1831 could be the son of William Johnson LACKEY (son of Hugh LACKEY and Sarah Jane PORTER) b 1809 in Maury Co, TN and first wife, name unknown. William J. LACKEY married Edith CATHEY 1838 in Calhoun County, Ala. He died in 1893 in Bell Co, Texas. In the same area lived William LACKEY (possibly the son of Lackey/Spear) b 1823 and wife Sarah BRYANT. Any help on William Johnson or my William would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

ELDER posted by Michael Craig Elder on Sunday, September 30, 2001

Hello - I am trying to trace my family's history, and I know that my great, great grandfather was from Calhoun County, Alabama. His name was Edward J. ELDER. Do you have any advice or sources for me to further my research? Please advise at your convenience. The furthest I could research in the Alabama State Archives was the 1900 census because of non-existent records from previous census. Thank you so much for your time! ~ Craig
