My great-great-grandfather, Cornelius Thomas O'KEEFE, owned approximately 30 acres of land in Calhoun County which his estate sold in 1866 or 1867. Are there any books of deeds available that I could use to determine when he bought the land originally and perhaps why he had land there? Any help along these lines is appreciated.

Their parents were William Robinson White b 17 Feb 1877 and Sarah Frances Elizabeth Brown b 8 Feb 1882, Edwardsville, GA. They were m. 19 Jan 1902, Rabbit Town, Alabama. William Robinson White's parents were Mark White and Margaret Chambers, m Calhoun County, Alabama. Family legend says that Grandpa tried tracing his family history once and discovered that his grandmother was a cannibal living in the swamps who ate 14 people. He loved to kid his grandchildren, so this is probably not true! Any help tracing our ancestry greatly appreciated! Thanks!    http://pag es.cthome.net/frenabee/spaldinghawkinsgum.htm

Richard Wright Thu Mar 7 04:43:14 2002
Searching for my WRIGHT ancestors. In the 1850 Benton County census, there was an Elizabeth WRIGHT(51f Born Ga.) as head of household. Living with her was C. WRIGHT(27m Born Ga.), W. WRIGHT(18m Born Ga.) and M. WRIGHT(14f Born Ga.) Unfortunately, the census-taker only used initials for the children, but I believe the W. WRIGHT to be Winfield WRIGHT, my GGgrandfather. This WRIGHT family could have been in Benton County prior to 1850 and may be on the 1840 Census with info that would correspond with the ages of the wife and kids. I have no idea where this family was in Georgia, and since there are about 10 million counties in Georgia, it is difficult(impossible) to trace without the name of the husband to Elizabeth. I would greatly appreciate any help that could be provided. You can contact me direct at my e-mail. Thanks, Richard Wright wright1@worldnet.att.net Suwanee, Georgia

Seeking information on families, JARRELL and FANT in Calhoun County, AL - specifically of interest, information pertaining to my great-grandmother, Olla Lou Fant/Jarrell. Olla Lou's parents believed to be Dorcas Enos Fant and Anna Lou Martin. Olla Lou FANT was presumably married (briefly) to either Eugene Elonzo (E.E.) JARRELL, or to his brother Tom (Thomas?) JARRELL - probably at about 1905. They purportedly lived together until only shortly after their daughter (my grandmother) Vera Lou FANT JARRELL WATTS was born, and then divorced afterward. I have been able to locate no birth/marriage/death information on Olla Lou FANT/JARRELL, whom we believe lived and died in Calhoun or Talladega County, AL for her entire life span. Any assistance on where to look further would be most appreciated!!! Thank You. J Gamache - ldsgamache@prodigy.net
