The following list of books are linked to more
complete information. Some of them are outdated or duplicated in
easier to obtain materials but I've included them so you can know that.
Most of the books have a direct link to the
Library of Congress (OCLC) web site. Their web site is linked to a large
number of libraries and will give you a list of libraries that have the book.
Most of the libraries linked to are large ones or universities
and there are many libraries that are not listed. Many of them
do not inter library loan but often copies of limited information can be
obtained through inter library loan. You would need to know specific
details to do that. Very few genealogy libraries do ILL of entire books.
Those not listed on OCLC may be listed with another organization such as a
statewide system. Since I first wrote this more libraries are linked to OCLC.
To get an ILL you'll have to go through your local
library and even in a large system there is often one person that handles
ILL. They have more resources to find a book and who will loan it.
The Birmingham Public Library (BPL) has most of the books listed here and
will do a limited amount of coping for a fee if you know the page numbers.
More info on interlibrary loan can be found at the following links.
The Library
of Congress >> Librarians & Archivists >> Interlibrary Loan
Clicking on the books listed will take you to details.

"Genealogical
Abstracts From The Banner, 1893, In Clanton, Chilton County, Alabama ",
Charlene Vinson.
This work contains a wealth of information extracted
from microfilmed copies of The Banner newspaper, published in Clanton,
Chilton County, Alabama. The 1893 coverage is complete with the exception
of February 16 and 23, March 16 and 23, and May 11. Articles not possessing
genealogical value have been given brief attention, but are not fully transcribed.
All articles of genealogical value, even those that could not be fully
transcribed due to damaged newsprint, have been included. Advertisements
containing genealogical material have also been included. Variations and
inconsistencies in the spelling of names, as they appeared in these articles,
have been maintained and each variation is included in the index. The contents
of these articles paint a vivid portrait of the life of local residents,
rich with names, and reflecting the priorities and interests of their era.
Some sections included are: "Town Items" detailing snippets of local interest;
"Our County Officers" presenting a brief biographical sketch for a different
county officer each week; "Alabama State Assembly", "State News", "Telegraphic
News Items", "General News", and more. A multitude of miscellaneous headlines
beg to be read: "Working For His Former Slave", "Aged 104 And Wants A Wife",
"Terrible Murder At Plantersville", "Small-Pox In Wall Paper", "Collins
Chapel Chirpings" - bet you can't read just one! 1999, 356 pp., original fullname index, paper, V1325Heritage Books Inc:

"Genealogical Abstracts From The Autauga
Citizen, 1853,in Prattville, Autauga County, Alabama“ .Charlene
Vinson. Ms. Vinson has abstracted and compiled articles of genealogical
value from microfilmed copies of Prattville's weekly newspaper a treasure
trove of information on Alabama families and a glimpse of our world in
1853 as viewed through southern eyes. Shifting county lines, following
the publication of this newspaper, make this volume of interest to genealogists
researching ancestors in Autauga, Elmore or Chilton Counties. Elmore County
was established in 1866 and included an eastern section of Autauga. Chilton,
formed in 1868, annexing a northern portion of Autauga.
Articles are arranged chronologically, and include "Editorial Brevities",
"News By Telegraph", lists of unclaimed letters at the post office, lists
of
political representatives, legislative proceedings, proceedings of
the Southern Rights Convention, birth notices, marriage announcements,
obituaries, election notices, probate notices, administrator sale notices,
accounts of shootings, murders, and much more. Articles such as
"Reminiscences of Autauga County" will be of interest to general readers
as well as genealogists and historians. Advertisements with genealogical
value, as well as state, national, and worldwide news items are also included.
Spelling variations have been maintained as they appeared in these articles,
and each variation is included in the index. 2000, 219 pp., full name index,

Page 1 to 54 deals with the Scandinavians in Thorsby. This is a very good source of material on the history of
Thorsby but from the standpoint of that ethnic group. Page 54 to 77 deals with Silverhill in
Baldwin County and 77 to 80 with Fruithurst on the GA/AL border. All these communities had a similar background
and some confections to the same Lutheran church body. It is based to a great extent on oral interviews.
I had hoped it had some of the translated church records but although there are some references to them
they are not included.
