by Sarah Mozingo, April, 1998

31 Mar 2007 - Additional info has been added to this cemetery, compliments of Elsie Sarah Lilburn. New info is shown in bold.
Elsie comments: "Notes added from my Genealogy Tree and direct decendants. For the school year 1838-1939, Corinth Church was used as a one –room school house. My family and I lived in Ararat during this time. In Ararat and my sister went to school there. I don’t remember his name but the school teacher was a male."

(I can’t verify these dates, but there was a Clarence "Tony" Bishop, husband to Jewel Virginia Whatley, that is buried in this cemetery and they are the parents of: Donald Wayne Bishop 1947-1951 and Chastity Star Bishop 1974-1974.

Donald Wayne Bishop

Claude Duval Bonneau was the driver. Rear doors of autos at that time opened from the front to the rear of the automobile. Donald was riding in the back seat, he opened the door while The car was moving and he was pulled out and ran over.

Brantley

John Joseph Brantley b. abt. 1831 in Anson County, North Carolina – d. ? before 1900 ? 2nd husband to Levinia "Vinnie" Watson. Some of the family came to Ararat before 1880. John and Vinnie came after 1880 with the rest of the family from Chesterfield County, South Carolina.

Brantley

Levinia "Vinnie" Watson, 1st husband was Joel P. Horne, 2nd husband was John Joseph Brantley She was b. abt 1829 in Cheraw, Chesterfield County, South Carolina and d. ? before 1900 ? Her 1st marriage was to Joel P. Horne, they had 4 male children, all born between 1850-1856. She married John Joseph Brantley before 1860 and all 4 children were listed on the 1860 census as children of John Brantley. This was proven by the 1850 Census of Chesterfield County, South Carolina with Joel Horne, (father) Vinnie (mother) and Joel Horne (son, 2 months old) and by the Choctaw County census of 1880 with 2 of the Horne sons living together. Also proven by the death certificate of one of his sons, John Thomas Horne, also buried in this cemetery. (Note; the "E" was dropped from the name "Horne").
