SMITH/DEES/SHAMBURGER
Mary Abbe
I am looking for information on the Augustus Caesar Smith family. He died in Choctaw Co, in 1880, but his will was not probated until 1890. At which time his widow Francis Millican Smith was alive with two children Julia Frances and Almond (Almer). Another son, John M. Smith is my gggrandfather. There were many children (some much older by a first wife). But Robert M. Smith and William M. Smith would still have been in Choctaw County. The A. C. Smith family was living in Tallapoosa Co, AL in 1850.I am interested in the family of Calvin Dees and his wife Martha Anne Shamburger. They were on the 1850 and 1860 census of Choctaw Co, AL.
Looking for descendants of Robert M. SMITH, son of Augustus C. SMITH and wife Frances MILLICAN. Robert's oldest daughter Olive Ann married Wilton Perry Woolf in 1901. Other children were Conde Robert, Sadie F., and Vivian who were still unmarried in 1910. Robert is a brother of John M. SMITH, my g g grandfather.
Looking for descendants of Alman C. SMITH son of Augustus C. SMITH and Frances MILLICAN. Alman married Bettie/Bertie in about 1899 and had a daughter Wilmer H. in 1901. Alman is the youngest brother of John M. SMITH, my g g grandfather.
Looking for two sons of Augustus C. SMITH and Frances MILLIGAN: William M. and Hough. William M. was alive in 1890 at the probating of his father's will. They are brothers of my g g grandfather John M. SMITH.

There are only four that I've found. Alfred is one of them. Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

CUNNINGHAM
Candace Cunningham
Hello. My name is Candace Cunningham. I am an Alabama Choctaw Indian and a Georgia Cherokee Indian. For years, I have been raised on the stories of my ancestors. My father, Rivers Cunningham (named after my great uncle) moved to Rhode Island some years ago from Choctaw County, Alabama. He has always talked about being unable to know about our ancient ancestors.Everyone in that part of Alabama seems to know about the "Cunningham Choctaws" but many of the old people who knew about our ancients are either too old to remember or dead. I am now 23 years old and I try to encourage my native students (I am a teacher) to always know about their roots. Can you please help me?
Here are some names that may help you:
Rivers Carl Cunningham (1935-) born in Choctaw County, Alabama (listed as "Negro" because of the unfair skin color requirements back when the census was taken)
-son of Terry CunninghamGreat-Grandmother Jeanne (spelling I am not sure of) born sometime before 1900s in Choctaw County, Alabama
I have more names but these will give be the ones that ae the most valuable. I ahve too many holes in my family tree and I need your assistance. Please, help me.
I am an Alabama Choctaw and A Georgia Cherokee and I am looking for anyone who is from Choctaw County, Alabama where my father is from. There were three people with the name Rivers Cunningham who were born in Choctaw County, one my father, the other my great grandfather and the other my half brother. Please help me. I am a direct descendent of Choctaw County, Alabama. I have lived there fro a while but was only told information through my father in reagrds to my family. Can anyone help?

CRAIG
Becky Horvath
I found this on the 1860 census on the Choctaw Co. web site:CRAIG , ANDREW , T. , M , 27 , AL , H , 1 , 1 , 407 , 39 , C620 , 165
CRAIG , THOMAS , A. , M , 18 , AL , M , 1 , 1 , 408 , 0 , C620 , 165
The Thomas A. caught my eye as that was my grgr grandfather's name. I have him in Clay Co., Indiana in 1870 until his death in 1906 in Clay Co. He has Illinois listed as his birthplace on everything documented by him, but I haven't been able to find him there.
I checked the 1850 census on-line for Choctaw and neither Craig was there at the time.
Could someone help me to prove or find it false that this may be the Thomas A. Craig I'm looking for. His death certificate shows his father's name as being Thomas J. Craig, but I can't prove that to be true either.
Please e-mail me if you can help me. This family is driving me crazy!
Thank you very much,
Becky

TAYLOR/GIBSON
Lisa McCombe
I only have some information on my g-g-g-g-grandmother who was believed to be a Chickasaw/Choctaw Indian. She married a Grant Taylor in about 1812. I do not know where in Alabama. She was born about 1793 and died after Sept. 1836. She went by the first name of Mary, but Native American's at that time did not have last names. That is why it has been so difficult to trace. Her husband Grant Taylor was born about 1790 in Alabama and died in Brownsboro, Madison, AL. They may have had more than one child, but the one I have a record of is also named Mary Taylor. She (the daughter) went by the name of Polly. Mary (Polly) was born on December 26, 1814 in Morgan, AL. She died on July 16, 1877 in Golconda, IL. Her husband was Joseph Carroll Gibson. He and Mary were also married in Morgan, AL on September 11, 1834. They removed to Pope County, IL after the birth of their first son in 1840. I have been trying to obtain further information on the first Mary (Grant's wife), but, so far, I have been unsuccessful.
