I am searching for the family of William SHEFFIELD, who was born about
1800 in NC. William was on the 1850 census of Wilcox Co, AL. He is found
living very close to other SHEFFIELDS, the families of Isaac, Nathan, and
Isham SHEFFIELD. In 1860, he is in Clarke Co, AL, living in the Grove Hill
area and close to an Adam and John SHEFFIELD. Somehow he is related to
these SHEFFIELDs but I haven't been able to find the connection. Could
he be another son of Isaac who was born about 1780 married to Rebebcca
Hare? Or could he be there brother? William was married to a Nancy (possibly
a Nancy Crosby in Bulloch Co, GA). Nancy was born about 1808 in SC. Children
that I know of: Sarah b. ca 1841, Wilcox Co, AL William (A?) b. ca 1844,
Wilcox Co, AL Margaret Catherine, b. 5 Dec 1846, Wilcox Co, Al, m. Jessie
Goodman 1867 Clarke Co, AL Nancy E., b. ca 1850, Wilcox Co, AL I noticed
that Adam, son of Isaac, also had a daughter named Margaret. She was listed
as Margaret C on one census record.

My grandmother, Eloise PITMAN CLARKE, was born in Silptca, Alabama- close
to Coffeeville. Her parents were Orlando Beale (Bud) PITMAN and Sallie
Belle CLELAND. My great grandmother, Sallie, had a brother, Sam, who was
sheriff of Clarke County in the 1940s. Does anybody have any info on this?
It was a CLELAND who married a BURKS from Mobile before the Civil War.
The BURKS were suppose to have a home on Government St. in Mobile The story
goes that they had a home on Government St. and country home on the Tombigee
River and when the yankees came to Mobile at the end of the war, they hid
their silver in some lard and stuck it down the well. Some of it was found
but the ones that weren't I guess was disperse among family. Sallie B.
gave all her girls 1 piece of silver, including my grandmother, Eloise.
That was Eloise, Maggie, Mary Lou and Jeanette. When I was a little girl,
spending the night with my grandmother, I used to sit and hold the fork
with the faded 'B' on the handle, and imagine all sorts of stories.

US census for Prairie Bluff Community of Wilcox Co., Ala. with following
children: Henry [Burl] Wayage 6 and "Puss" Way age 2.. Aaron
Way is listed as a carpentar worth $120. There has been some confusion
between him and an Aaron Way of same age, a planter worth $1,000 with wife
Ellen in St. James Goose Creek Parish (now Charleston Co.) SC. When Aaron
Way married Mary B. Luker, he would have been 31 or 32, rather old to marry
