The senior Dr. Rand was born at Raleigh, N. C., in 1822, came to Alabama with his parents in 1831, and settled near Leighton. He located at Tuscumbia in 1878, where he has practiced his profession ever since. He is a very successful physician and enjoys a large practice. He is a member of the North Alabama Medical Association and the County Medical Society.

Dr. Rand was married January 15, 1880, to Miss Mattie White, daughter of the late Mr. James M. White, of Memphis, Tenn. This union has blessed [sic] with two children: James and Edward. The doctor is a Presbyterian, and his wife is a communicant of the Episcopal Church.
