EDWARD P. RAND, MD

EDWARD P. RAND, M. D., was born November 7, 1848, in Lawrence County, Ala., and is a son of Dr. John W. and Catharine (Pearsall) Rand.

The senior Dr. Rand was born at Raleigh, N. C., in 1822, came to Alabama with his parents in 1831, and settled near Leighton. He was graduated from La Grange College, and also from Louisville, where he received his diploma as M. D. He practiced his profession at Leighton until 1859, when he engaged extensively in planting. From the disastrous results of the late war his fortune was considerably despoiled. He resumed farming after the war, but is now engaged in the practice of medicine at St. Joseph, Tenn.

The subject of this sketch received his education at the Cumberland University; began the study of medicine at Starkville, Miss., when twenty years of age, and graduated in 1872 from the University of Louisiana. He located at Tuscumbia in 1878, where he has practiced his profession ever since. He is a very successful physician and enjoys a large practice. He is a member of the North Alabama Medical Association and the County Medical Society.

Dr. Rand was married January 15, 1880, to Miss Mattie White, daughter of the late Mr. James M. White, of Memphis, Tenn. This union has blessed [sic] with two children: James and Edward. The doctor is a Presbyterian, and his wife is a communicant of the Episcopal Church.
