TRIMIGAN WASHINGTON THOMPSON
COLBERT COUNTY COMMISSIONER 1871 - 1878

Trimigan Washington Thompson was born in Milledgeville, Ga. In 1813. At the age of 5, in 1818 he moved to Lauderdale County, with his father Henry and his mother Lucy. According to an 1888 article I have says that Henry fought in the War of 1812 and was an officer. Trimigan was educated in Lauderdale County. At the age of 21 he married Mary Wilder and moved to Franklin County, which later split to become Colbert County.

Trimigan and Mary settled off the Natchez Trace in the Allsboro area and began their family. They raised eight sons and 5 daughters. Three of their sons fought in the Civil War, under General Forrest. William J. the oldest was killed in Georgia in 1864. Emmett became a Methodist preacher and moved to Texas. John A. was also a Methodist preacher in the Huntsville area.

Trimigan became an extensive planter and a popular public man. In 1859 he was elected Justice of the Peace. When Colbert was formed he was appointed Apporitioner. Then in 1871 he was elected from the west end of Colbert County as one of the first Commissioners of the County. He held office for 2 terms until 1878. Mary died in 1875. Then he was elected Justice of the Peace for the Cherokee area. He held office of Justice of the Peace, Magistrate, Apporitioner and County Commissioner for over 30 years.
