MRS. GOODWIN DIES FRIDAY
Will be Interred Sunday afternoon
Mrs. Mattie Belle Goodwin, age 63, of Sheffield, Route 1,
wife of John W. Goodwin, died at the family home there last
night at 7:30 following an illness of two weeks.
A native of Colbert County, being born within a few miles
of the present family residence, Mrs. Goodwin spent her
youth there, later moving to Lauderdale county where she
resided for a number of years. From Lauderdale Mrs.
Goodwin moved to Melissa, Texas., Returning to Colbert
County about 27 years ago.
The deceased was a devout and active member of the
Church of Christ.
Surviving in addition to her husband, John W. Goodwin,
of Sheffield Route 1, are three sons, W. M., of Barton; Jesse,
of Sheffield and Emmett Goodwin of Rogersville, principal of
the elementary school there, and one daughter Mrs. N. H.
Bunnell of Sheffield.
The funeral procession will leave the family residence at
noon tomorrow with services to be held at the Presbyterian
church at Mt. Pleasant cemetery about two miles south of
Ford City at 1 p.m. with Elder C. L. Overtuft of Sheffield
Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow with Brown's
Sheffield in charge.
Active pallbearers will be John W. Stutts, Robert F.
Kernachan, Frank Quillen, George R. Donnigan, Robert
McCann, C.R. Sharp, R. L. Pullen and Carey Harrison.
Honorary pallbearers will include J. A. Graham, James F.
Simpson, Dr. W.J. Callaway, Dr. S.S. Roberts, Sherrif W. L.
Stutts of Lauderdale; I. D. Arnold, Robert ("Bob") Smith, Rev.
J. R. Jolly, Henry Hanlin, W. H. Richeson and Mr. Milstead.
