In Memoriam.
"Death loves a shining mark," an axiom sadly verified in the death of one who
had by reason of ability and zeal placed the impress of that mark upon his
Country's history. Judge B. F. McKIERNAN is no more of earth. A native
Alabamian; he settled in the city of Memphis, Tenn., many years ago, where his
talents and probity soon won for him a distinguished position. He became notable
among the learned profession there, and his elevation to the Bench was a
gratifying evidence of the fact. The [amenities?] of his character so
distinguishable in private life, were never lost sight of in his official acts;
truth, courtesy and generosity were leading traits in his usefully spent life,
and he now rests in an honored grave, mourned by a host of friends. Memphis
weeps and North Alabama lets fall the sympathetic tear. His mortal remains were
interred on last Friday in the family burial ground, near the residence of his
venerable Mother in Franklin County.
