OBITUARY.
DIED.- On the morning of the 24th inst., of a lingering illness, at his
residence in this place, the Hon. PETER WALKER, aged about 54 years.
The deceased was a native of Amherst county, Virginia, where he was raised and
educated, and where he studied the Law.
He moved thence to Elyton, in Jefferson county, Alabama, where he followed his
profession, and where for several years he presided as Judge of the County Court
of that county.
About fourteen years ago, he settled in this place, where he continued the
practice of the Law, with almost unremitting assiduity unGl [sic] his death.
His dissolution was doubtless hastened by his recent reluctant attendance at the
late Baltimore Convention, as one of the delegates from Alabama, and while on
his return he had a severe illness was just able to reach his family---his
debility was great---but the lamp of life continued to flicker in its socket,
alternately encouraging hope and despair until a very short period before he
breathed his last.--- Franklin Democrat.
