COLBERT
FAMILY REUNION
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2007
5:00 O’CLOCK
SHEFFIELD’S WEST CARTER PARK
TUSCUMBIA LANDING
COLBERT COUNTY
SHEFFIELD, ALABAMA
On April 15, 2007 Tuscumbia Landing was designated as a
Certified Historic site by the National Park Service. This is the first site
certification in the state of Alabama and the most significant. The landing was
used during removal and is an example of multiple
transportation uses. The train bed, the wagon road and the landing itself is
still visible and still maintains its integrity.
Sheffield’s West Carter Park is on a bluff overlooking Tuscumbia Landing. The
park has been closed for many years but renovations have been made to the
pavilions and many other renovations are being made. The development of the park
has not disturbed the landing site.
Sheffield will open the park on September 7, 2007 for the Colbert Family
Reunion. This event will take place at 5:00 o’clock in the afternoon. Tuscumbia
Landing will also be open at this time.
Reed Kirkland will give an update on the progress of the Tharp Cemetery where
Nancy Colbert is buried. The Southeastern Anthropology Institute will be present
along with members of the Natchez Trace Genealogy Society. Local historians and
city representatives are also invited. The Walk of Life will be Saturday morning
after the dedication by the National Park Service.
Covered Dish (sandwiches, chips and related foods are suggested)
For information call 256-381-0700
In case of bad weather or if the weather is too hot the reunion will be held at
