Volunteers may do unlimited lookups if and only if:

The lookup volunteer is the actual author and copyright holder of the publication.
The lookup volunteer is using primary source documents ... whether they are treking to the courthouse or using their own xeroxed copies of public domain documents.
The lookup volunteer has written permission from the author / copyright holder to use their publication for lookups

Volunteers may be able to make certain limited scope lookups in copyrighted publications under the "fair use" provisions of existing law.
Potential volunteers are encouraged to review the explanations of copyright protection, especially the "fair use" provisions, available at rootsweb.com.

Rules for Lookup Requests

To request a lookup from any of the references, click on the name of the owner and ask them politely. Remember, they are volunteers so they don't have to do this. Please remember to say thank you to the volunteer.

Mention the name of the book in your message.

Our volunteers aren't mind-readers &
they may not remember which books they volunteered for.

Make your requests for lookup limited in scope.

"Tell me everything about the Smiths" is probably too broad.

Laurie Blackshear I need to see the following subject line for all lookups: Lookup - Conecuh, AL	I have a copy of 'History of Escambia County, Alabama' by Annie C. Waters. Since Escambia was formed from part of Conecuh, I would be happy to do look-ups. Just let me know!
Kay Anderson	Monroe & Conecuh County , Alabama Marriages 1833-1880
Art Green	Art has volunteered to do military lookups in the book he has written entitiled "Southerners At War". His grandfather served in the 38th Alabama Infantry CSA. Captain E. W. Martin's Co. E which consisted of men from Conecuh County. "Southerners at War" was published in 1999 and contains the history of the regiment and the service records of all 1498 men associated with the 38th. The book is available at local books stores. These proud men left Mobile in 1863 with over 800 soldiers and surrendered with only 70 left. After spending a year in Mobile they fought at Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, Rocky Face, Dalton, Resaca, Cassville, Atlanta, Franklin Tennessee and Nashville and finally ended the war at Spanish Fort near Mobile. The roster is posted at: Conecuh Archives He is also working on "Too Little, Too Late" about the 2nd Alabama Reserves/63rd Alabama Infantry and will answer questions on this group also.
