Art has volunteered to do military lookups in the book he has written
entitiled "Southerners At War". His grandfather served in
the 38th Alabama Infantry CSA. Captain E. W. Martin's Co. E which
consisted of men from Conecuh
County. "Southerners at War" was published in 1999 and contains the history of the regiment and the service records of all 1498 men associated with the 38th. The book is available at local books stores. These proud men left Mobile in 1863 with over 800 soldiers and surrendered with only 70 left. After spending a year in Mobile they fought at Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, Rocky Face, Dalton, Resaca, Cassville, Atlanta, Franklin Tennessee and Nashville and finally ended the war at Spanish Fort near Mobile.
