Florence McKay Miller Adams, 91, of
Dothan, died Friday, March 3, 2006, at Westside Terrace.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 6, 2006, at 10 a.m. in
Kent-Thornton-Meadows Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Homer Davis officiated.
Burial was in Cowarts City Cemetery.
Mrs. Adams was born in Dale County Aug. 26, 1914, the youngest daughter of
Sidney Warren (Bud) McKay and Florence de Lula Lane McKay.
She was a faithful member of Grandview Baptist Church for more than 50 years,
and taught a women's Sunday school class for many years.
She was employed by Burlington Mills, beginning in 1938, and later began a
career in the food services industry when she opened a small restaurant. After
that venture, she became manager of the Dothan High School lunchroom. Her
expertise in food services management then led her to Flowers Hospital where she
was manager of the Dietary Department. When Wesley Manor Methodist Retirement
Home opened in Dothan, she was employed as the director of Food Services, and
continued in that position until her retirement in 1975.
She attended Midland City High School, and later earned a General Equivalency
Diploma (GED). She completed a correspondence course for Food Service Directors
in Hospitals and Nursing Homes and received her diploma in ceremonies at Auburn
University in 1972.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Milton Cosby Miller, her
husband Marvin Adams, her brothers and sisters, Alto McKay, Sadie Harrell,
Murray McKay, Mable Snellgrove Fuller, Frances Strickland and Lurie McKay, and
her son-in-law, James (Jimmy) Richard Aaron.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon Miller Aaron Clements and Earl
Clements, Dothan; her son and daughter-in-law, Sidney and Martha Miller of Lake
Mary, Fla.; her grandchildren, James Richard (Rickey) Aaron, Jr., and his wife,
Wendy, of Trussville; Amanda Aaron Love and husband, Brett Love of Dothan,
Sidney Miller, Jr., and wife, Diane, and Chris Miller and wife, Susan, all of
Lake Mary; great-grandchildren, Katie Aaron of Montgomery, Morgan Aaron and Luke
Aaron of Trussville, Houston Love and Mary-Katherine Love of Dothan; Eddie,
Sydney, Ashley, Lindsey, Hayden and MacKenzie Miller, all of Lake Mary; several
nieces and nephews also survive.
