DeKalb County ALGENWEB; The Fort Payne Journal, Fort Payne, Alabama; Wednesday, May 2, 1945; Page 2. PFC. CECIL C. HICKS DIES OF WOUNDS IN ARMY HOSPITAL Pfc. Cecil C. Hicks, who was wounded in action in the Pacific early this year, passed away in an Army Hospital in California April 13th. Pfc. Hicks had only been back in the States three days when his death occurred. His wife received notice that he was being returned to the States and was on her way to California to see him, but he died before her arrival. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Jewell Hicks; his father, Noah A. Hicks, one brother, Noah; two sisters, Mabel and Guntue Hicks, all of Henagar. The body was returned to DeKalb County and funeral services were held at Unity Church Tuesday, April 24, with the Revs. Willie Kerby and W. H. Rains officiating. The funeral was attended by a large concourse of friends and relatives, paying their last respects to one of our fighting men. Pallbearers were Ernest Poe, J. T. Poe, Luther, Tommie, Charlie and Mark Lacy, and Henry Ward. Flower girls were Evaline Battles, Velma Poe, Vandine Poe, Nancy Poe, Ida Mae Poe, Irene Poe, Ruby May Hicks and Florence Ward. Interment was made in adjoining cemetery with McBryar Funeral Home in charge.
