IN MEMORY OF PFC. SAMUEL L. LOWREY Pfc. Samuel L. Lowery, age 27, who was killed in action in Eastern France, February 1, 1945. He had been in service since 1942, received his training in Texas and Arkansas before going over seas in July 1944, where he spent seven months. Before entering the service he was a farmer. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church, Fort Payne. He made peace with God and was baptized August 29, 1938. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Billy Lowery, Texas; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Virgie Lowery, Fort Payne Route 1; two brothers, Russell and J. D., Fort Payne Route 1; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Wyantt, West Va.; Mrs. John Watson, Birmingham, Ala. A precious one from us is gone,A voice we loved is stilled; A place is vacant in our home Which never can be filled. From this world of war and sorrow He has gone to his home on high, Where we shall go and meet him And no one shall ever die. The shock was sudden, the pain severe, We little though such grief was near. Only those who have lost can tell, The pain of parting without farewell. We do not know the pain he suffered; we did not see him die, We only know he went far away and never said good bye. Our home circle here had been broken In this world we'll meet no more But there'll be a great reunion Just across on that evergreen shore. By his aunt, Mrs. Buster Dean.
