McCord, of Fort Payne Star Route, has received a telegram stating that her son, Pvt. Julian C. (Chesley) McCord, is a prisoner of the Japanese, somewhere in the Philippine Islands. Reported Prisoner When Dead Mrs. Sarah J. McCord, Star Route, Fort Payne, received the following telegram Sunday, July 8th. "The Secretary of War desires that I tender his deep sympathy to you in the loss of your son, Pvt. Julian C. McCord, who was previously reported a prisoner of war of the Japanese. Government report now received states he was killed in action the 28th of October, 1943 on the Philippine Islands. Signed: Edward F. Witsell, Acting Adjutant General of the Army. Pvt. Julian C. McCord volunteered for the army on June 6th, 1941, and all of his service was overseas. He was 25 years old, March 16. he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Sarah McCord, one sister and seven brothers.
