Transcriber's notes:  The brick cornerstone of the church reads: "Bethel M.E. Church, 1916–1948, In Memory of Mother Powers."  The old Mallet Hill School was located on CR 9 about 2 miles north of Stough.  The building also served as the Mallet Hill Methodist Church until 1916 when Bethel Methodist Church was built about 50 yards north of it.  It was of wood-frame construction and lasted 50 years and was then rebuilt of brick.  Elizabeth POWERS and family homesteaded Mallet Hill in 1878.  Her youngest son became a Methodist minister and the church pastor.  The church is now called Bankston-Stough Community Church.
