The ROBINSON family settled before 1860 in Arkansas, with indications that they had arrived in the area about 1852.  According to records that have survived, they were in the Tuscaloosa, AL, area and possibly also in the Pickens Co. and Fayette Co. areas.  The earliest records I find of the family are a marriage record for a Washington ROBERTSON (sic) and a Louisa WALTERS in 1834 in Tuscaloosa Co., AL.  The family may have spent a short time in Mississippi after leaving Alabama and before their arrival in Arkansas.  The family was apparently of the Baptist faith, and in trying to locate Louisa and Washington’s parents and siblings, I have spent many hours reviewing microfilmed records.  Unfortunately I live in Oregon, which is far from the area the family is from.
 
Currently, I’ve been unable to locate the family in the 1850 census records in Arkansas, Alabama, or Mississippi.  In trying to reconstruct the family in Alabama, I have searched microfilmed deed records and recorded the names that I found associated with the family in either Arkansas or Alabama.  The following is my “working” file of the local Alabama deed records.  If you have any information on the ROBINSON family, please contact me (Jan Robinson).
