I have a 4+ great grandfather
(Samuel Taylor Walker)
who serve in the confederate army - I would like
very much to order him a stone w/the southern cross (he does not have
anything marking his grave) - he is buried at Pilgrim's Rest church
next to his wife Elizabeth Johnston
Walker (in the very old section to the
left of the church) The church is located in the Newtonville area
- I
have tried to contact someone at Pilgrims Rest and never get an answer
-
I need permission by the church or someone responsible for the cemetery
to place a stone there - I need a name and a telephone number.
Any help
would be greatly appreciated.

In my travels looking for one of my
ancestors, Hosea BUTLER,
I ran across this entry for the 1860 census:
1860 Census, Fayette County, Alabama
Year: 1860; Census Place: Western Division, Fayette, Alabama; Roll:
M653_9; Page: 319; Image: 324.
574/574
Batlen, Hosa male age 69 born SC
farmer
Polly female age 69 born SC
Corrections for - 1860 United States Federal Census
Given Name: Hosea
Surname: Butler
Correction Type: Incorrect Original
Explanation: Hosea and his wife Mary "Polly" Cleland can be
seen in the 1850 Georgia Census, Gordon County, and the 1870 Alabama
Census, Sanford County. In this 1860 census their sons James and
Claiborne live nearby.
(MM Note: Hosea is with his third wife Sarah in
the 1870 census as Polly is long since deceased by then.)
Hosea married Sinia Priscilla GILMORE, apparently married
previously to a
WILLIAMS as she had
two Williams children with her in her parent's
household in 1860 which was a few households prior to Hosea and
Polly.
Hosea later married a Sarah L, last name unknown, as shown in the 1870
census records and also in records recorded in the Sanford, now Lamar,
courthouse in 1871. Unfortunately, no marriage record of Hosea
has yet
to be found except for his first to Mary "Polly" CLELAND.
My questions --
Does anyone know where Polly Cleland Butler, wife of Hosea Butler is
buried?
Also, on one of the Fayette County pages, there is a lengthy article
reviewing the MADDOX family. There is a notation of Nancy
Caroline
MADDOX "married Samuel
Coger HARRISON
(1858-1909). They raised a
family of seven children. Among their children were: Julia
HARRISON
(1892-1976), who married William Franklin McCLUNG; Robert, who
married
Alice BUTLER ..." Who is Alice Butler? I have knowledge of
many
of Hosea's descendants, and descendants of his siblings, but have no
clue who Alice is. Any help would be appreciated!
Third, in the same Maddox article, a notation is made of "The fourth
child of William and Mary's was Pinkney Levi MADDOX, who was born in
the mid 1860s." Am I correct in that this is the P Levi Maddox
who
married Margaret Ann "Molly" Butler, daughter of Elias M Butler
& Charlotte L "Charlotty" OWENS?
Fourth, does anyone know what Sarah L's maiden name was when she
married Hosea (about 1864/1865)? It has been speculated that her
maiden
name is Anthony, but
so far no proof has been found.
Lastly, does anyone know anything of Dempsey Butler, recorded as a
head
of household in the 1850 Census for Fayette County? He is another
name
of which I haven't heard.
I apologize for the length of this query. All are questions to
which I
would like answers, but most of all, I would really like to know the
burial site of Mary "Polly" CLELAND Butler. And if anyone
knows where ole Hosea Butler is buried, I know a lot of people who
would
be thrilled to find that information. Thanks so much!
~ Mary
p.s. If a reader is a descendant of Hosea BUTLER, there is a newly
published book regarding him, his descendants and descendants of his
siblings written by Dorothy Butler Welsh of Oklahoma. I would be
happy
to share her contact info if anyone would like to purchase a copy of
the
book. It is well written and Dorothy tried very hard to document
information. A few errors exist, but then errors exist in nearly
all man
made publications.

Moses' father, Lemuel JOHNSON and mother Mary A. _____ lived in
Fayette County in 1850 and 1860. Moses is found in Fayette County
as
late as 1870, then moves to Louisiana by 1880, then to Attala County,
Mississippi where he died in 1915. Lemuel died between the 1860
census
and the 1870 census. Lemuel's parents were John JOHNSON and
Elizabeth ______, both born in South Carolina. I am pretty
certain that
Lemuel is buried in Fayette County, and his parents may be as
well. Do
any of you have any additional info?
