GRIFFIN, General W. ‘Uncle’ – b. July 9, 1942 [Son of Thomas C. Jr. and Mary Jane Griffin, and grandson of Thomas and Nancy Stewart Griffin. General is possibly the name-sake of “General Griffin” (father to Thomas 1803) and progenitor to our GRIFFIN line, as is said through family (oral) history. Geneva Co. City Officials were elected to begin a two-year term in October 1922. Mayor H. L. Faulk and Town Marshall G.W. Griffin. General became a deputy Sheriff in Geneva County. He married Alice WALKER]. GRIFFIN, John T. – b. February 2, 1867 — d. January 14, 1899, Inscribed: ‘Age 32 years 1 month, 5 days’ ‘Death is Eternal Life, Why should we weep’. [s/o Thomas C. and Mary Jane Phillips Griffin, g/s of Thomas and Nancy Stewart Griffin. John T. married Frances Smith. He died from a stroke}. GRIFFIN, Sabie Rebecca – b. January 23, 1877 — d. June 25, 1959 [Wife of James Hardy, son of Thomas Jr. Sabie departed this life at the Moody Hospital in Dothan, Alabama. She left no lineal descendants when she died. Four days after James Hardy died she made her will. She was an elderly woman and said she had “not been able to write very good and did not know if she could sign her name where it could be read”. She practiced signing her name several times and was not satisfied with her signature and directed A. A. Smith to sign her name to her last Will and Testament. Also from this document, I found she was Sabie Rebecca SMITH before marring James Hardy GRIFFIN. Per Will Record book F page 337 Geneva County Court House]. Linda Harrison

GRIFFIN, Thomas M. – b. August 11, 1880 — d. June 5, 1974 (Son of Thomas Jr. and Mary Jane Phillips, h/o Mary LEWIS). Linda Harrison GRIFFIN, Thomas C. Jr. – b. January 7, 1843 — d. August 6, 1922 [Son of Thomas Sr. & Nancy STEWART, husband to Mary Jane Phillips. Thomas and Mary Jane left north Henry Co. AL in the late 1800’s, they settled in Slocomb, Geneva Co. AL, their farm was located very near Christian Home Baptist Church. CSA: Thomas enlisted in 1862 at Lawrenceville into the 39th AL Regt. Co. G. He was captured at Nashville TN (December 1864) and sent to Camp Douglas IL and spent the rest of the war there, being discharged from the camp 19 June 1865. In his 1907 CSA pension he stated: he was born in Abbeville, Henry County Alabama in January 1838]. Linda Harrison

GRIFFIN, Mary J. – b. February 17, 1843 — d. December 20, 1927 [Mary Jane PHILLIPS, wife of Thomas Jr. I believe she was the daughter of William PHILLIPS] Mary Jane was a midwife for the Slocomb community, and is said to have enjoyed a ‘corn cob’ pipe! Linda Harrison
GRIFFIN, William Duncan – b. December 5, 1875 — d. November 19, 1957 [Son of Thomas Jr. & Mary Jane PHILLIPS, father of Addie Bell GRIFFIN (McKINNEY, my g-grandfather.). I never knew my g-grandfather, but remember as a young child going to his ‘wake’ at the old farm place in Slocomb. He was ‘laid out’ on a table in a big room, This was a strange sight for a young child. There was an old wood burning stove in the front room. My youngest brother John, then about 3, burned his hand on the stove. I remember we left when that happened. The old farm place has since been torn down. Linda Harrison
