Looking for Mathison ConnectionsContact: Steve Groh I am looking for people with possible connections to the SOUTHERN MATHISON'S who migrated from SOUTH CAROLINA to ALABAMA. They may have come from KERSHAW / CAMDEN COUNTY, South Carolina and migrated through GEORGIA into ALABAMA sometime between 1815 & 1830. Many of these Mathison's were Methodist preachers who preached in Pike, Barbour, Dale, & Henry County....and many other places. MALCOLM MATHISON was born October 11, 1813 in South Carolina, and died June 24, 1897 in Barbour County, Alabama. He married March 31, 1839 in Henry County, Alabama to ELIZA WRIGHT , born October 1823 in Georgia, and died September 17, 1905 in Henry County, Alabama the daughter of LEVIN WRIGHT and TABITHA EVANS. According to Land Patent Reports, on August 21, 1837, Malcolm bought 40 acres of land in Henry County in Township 7-N, Range 26-E. He bought 40 more acres in Township 8-N in August of 1853 and again in July of 1854. I believe Malcolm's father is the John Mathison who is living in the Southern District of Henry County, Alabama in the 1830 census . The census also indicates that John is living with a female between 40 and 49 years old (his wife?) and with two males between the ages of 15 and 19 (his sons?). According to the "Index to Pension Applications for Indian War Service between 1817 and 1898" transcribed by Virgil D. White, Malcolm served as a 2nd Lt in Captain Gordon's Company of 25th Alabama Volunteers in the Creek War. Assuming this occurred around 1837, Malcolm would have been 25 at the time. At age 58, Malcolm would be fighting again, this time as a private in the "Henry Mounted Rebels" during the Civil War. Children of MALCOLM MATHISON and ELIZA WRIGHT are: 2. TABITHA MATHISON, b. 1840 3. George A. Mathison 2. SARAH ANN MATHISON, b. 1849, Henry County, Alabama; d.
