ANZEY, DANZEY, DANZY, WILLIAMS posted by Amanda McDuff on Tuesday, May 4, 1999

I recently found that the Danzey(ies) in our fam origionally spelled Danzey D'Anzey, and since the origional D'Anzey was from France, it could have possibly be spelled DeAnzey. I dont know of any Barnes connections, but i know of a James Danzey (D'Anzey) that married a Maime Williams and lived in Henry Co, AL around 1910 (?) and produced children: Mary, Thelma, Lee, Lawrence, and Moat Danzey. My grandmother was Lee, and she spelled it "Danzey" Hope i didn't make the confusion worse, but i am kinda confused about the name (as well as where to find more info about these people.)

ANZEY, DANZEY, WILLIAMS posted by Amanda McDuff on Tuesday, May 4, 1999

I am searching for a few people that lived in Henry Co, AL around 1920. James D'Anzey, origionally from France (although from where i'm working on) married Maime Williams in Henry Co, and had several children: Mary, Thelma, Moat, Lee, Lawrence, and others i am still finding out about. Somewhere along the line, the name changed from D'Anzey to Danzey. From what i understand, Maime Williams was a Cherokee Indian, but that is all the information I have available for now. If anyone has any information on any of these families, please let me know.

JONES, PHILLIPS posted by Carl B. Phillips on Thursday, May 6, 1999

I'm just beginnng to track the Jones connection to my Phillips line...All I have at this point is John Jones, Sr. born July 20, 1916 in Abbeville, Alabama, died May 20, 1984 in Detroit, Michigan. He married Ruth Phillips, March 1942, in Montgomery, Alabama. Would appreciate a 1920 census look-up for 4 year old John Jones, which would possibly lead to his parents and siblings.

GAMBLE, TERRY posted by James Marion Gamble on Saturday, May 15, 1999

Request information on Henry County families, Gamble and Terry. My grandfather was George W. J. Terry, born near Shorterville in 1859. He died in 1924. Rev R.A. Smith officiated at (?) Baptist Church, Abbevile. My grandmother was Julyann Pauline Holmes Terry, born in 1859 and died in Abbeville in 1935. They had nine children including my mother, Ruth Terry, all born in Shorterville and/or Abbeville. My father was James Robert Gamble and I believe he was born in Shorterville in April 1897, the son of James(?) and Emma Gamble. Any information on the Gamble's and Terry's would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Roberta, Thanks for your reply. Thomas Griffin Jr, was my Great, Great, Great Grandfather. He married Mary Jane Phillips from Henry county, Ala. He served in the Civil war, was wounded and imprisoned in Chicago Ill. He was paroled at the end of the war, and later received land in what is now Geneva County Ala, as bounty for war service. He had a son named, John, who was married to Francis Smith, also from abbyville, Alabama. John and Francis followed his father and mother to Geneva County Alabama. John died young, shortly after his arrival in Geneva County, apparently from a stroke. He was the father of my grandfather, George W. Griffin. Both Thomas Jr, and his wife, son John are all buried at Christian Home Baptist church, near where they lived. My mother, who is now 83 remembers hearing the family talk about Another son of their's named General. Apparently the above John and General were brothers, as well as another Thomas, Jim, and George. My mother thinks he was a railroad man, and lived in a nearby town, like Slocomb Ala, or Geneva, Ala. I probably could find out more on him if you would like. I have a copy of my great great granmother's application for pension (as a war widow) I will send you a copy if you'd like. Please stay in touch, thanks, Ann
