Elizabeth Corley Parish was the daughter of Jerimiah Corley and Mary ____ . Jerimiah Corley died around 1836 in Henry co. AL and left Mary with at least 3 daughters. They were Matilda, Mahala and Elizabeth. Could have been more. July 20, 1837 Mary Corley married Mathew Sellers and they are listed in the 1850 census of Henry co. AL. Mahala Corley married my James Standley, my ggg-grandfather, 1841 in Henry co. They had 2 children, Jerimiah b 1843 and Malisa Ann b 1845, James died in 1846. In the 1860 census of Jackson co. FL, Jerry (Jerimiah) age 17 and Melissa age 15 are living with Irvin Parish and his wife Elizabeth. I have more.

John, The Mary Elizabeth CULVER that you mention in your query is my Elizabeth Jane CULVER PARISH. There was always a lot of confustion about her name because it was slightly different in each census and she had a twin sister that died at an early age. It sounds like Joe Walker has you fixed up on Corleys. I have some on the Parishes and quite a bit on the Culvers if you are interested.

DOUGLAS posted by Rebecca Owens on Sunday, June 20, 1999

Dear Karon: I am also searching for information regarding the Douglas family of Columbia, Henry Co., Alabama. I am a descendent of Lewis Lafayette Douglas. He would be my gg grandfather. I have just started, so I don't have much to offer yet, but would appreciate your sharing any info you might have on the Douglas family. Lewis and Lizzie had a son named William Harmon Alonzo Douglas (my great-grandfather). A family bible shows that William married Nancy Victorie Hasty 12-24-1893 in the home of James Hasty (her father) and one of the witnesses at the wedding was G.R. Howard. Was this a relative of Lizzie? Hope to hear from you soon, Becky

BEARD, DOUGLAS, HOWARD posted by Karon Bosze on Monday, June 21, 1999

Hi Cousin!!! I've replied to you e-mail, but wanted to follow up with a reply here on GenConnect as well. I've not worked on this family very much. As I mentioned to your mother, I've spent most of my research time working on families here in VA and the HOWARD and DOUGLAS lines have been brickwall lines. I'm thankful that I was reading the 1860 Henry Co. AL census page by page, as the compiled index didn't have Harmon HOWARD listed as a Howard -- instead he was listed as COWARD. (Thanks Vern Jackson!!! ) Do you have any further information regarding Charlotte's maiden name? It appears to me that she and Lewis Douglas were married in South Carolina and that they were probably born there as well. Any idea where we should be looking in SC? I have been working on the DOUGLAS side recently. Have been working with Sharon Hiers as well, to bring out lines up to date (see posts to DOUGLAS-L list on Rootsweb). Is there a tie to the BEARDs prior to the DOUGLAS migration from Stewart Co., GA? (Sharon has located a military record for Fette's brother, which indicates that he (the brother) was born in Stewart Co.). The DOUGLAS family seems to have a SC connection as well. Look forward to hearing further from you. -- Karon

DOUGLAS, HOWARD posted by Karon Bosze on Monday, June 21, 1999

Hi Becky -- will be glad to share what little info I have. Most of it, deals with the more current members from information supplied by my grandmother. I have been inputting some DOUGLAS data lately, which I had gathered from a couple research trips to cemeteries at Columbia and Haleburg and from limited census viewings of Henry and Houston counties. I have your great-grandfather's name recorded as just "Alonzo" based on the 1880 census entry. Glad to see they passed on the Harmon name to him as well. Right now I don't know who the G.R. Howard might be. Might be a cousin of Lizzie's. Perhaps Dee Pierce will know. From what I could tell of earlier census readings, DOUGLAS and HOWARD were probably not part of the original settlers in Henry County, so that makes it more likely that those who we find in records connected to our family are morely than likely related. I've got a couple more weeks' worth of data entry to do. If you'd indicate your preference for word processor file type, I'll see that you (and Dee and Sharon) get copies of any reports that I compile from the data. After that's done, we'll have a better idea of what kind of records we need to search (timeframe wise, at least). Look forward to whatever you may have to add to the more recent family as well. -- Karon

BURKHARDT, PELT, STANDLEY, STANLEY, TAYLOR, VAN posted by Elaine Blackman on Friday, June 25, 1999

I am looking for any info for these names in Henry Co., AL in the early 1800s. My ancestors Isaac TAYLOR and Floray Burkhardt came from SC to Henry Co., AL in the early 1800s. They had 8 daughters (given names unknown to me) and 2 sons, Peter and Jesse. Peter TAYLOR was in Jackson Co., FL by 1850 and I think some of his sisters must have gone also. Jesse TAYLOR married Cynthia Ann STANLEY/ STANDLEY in Henry Co., AL on 17 Dec 1835. She was from NC originally and her father was James STANDLEY. Some of my STANDLEY/ STANLEY and TAYLOR families went to Polk Co., TX in 1854. Also with them were 2 young men from Jackson Co., FL by the names of Alfred and Durant PELT (nee VAN PELT). They both married daughters of Jesse and Cynthia "Kitsy Ann" TAYLOR in Polk Co., TX close to 1860 and had families (contrary to a book I've read). The parents of the PELT brothers were John VAN PELT and Christiana TAYLOR. I think Christiana may have been one of the 8 daughters since she was of the! right age to have been and was born in SC. Any help appreciated..

Charlotte (also spelled Charlott) Flowers Howard Beard was born 1830 in GA she was married to Harmon Howard and they had two children, that I have found a record of. Elizabeth A. called Lizzie, and Marcus. Upon the death of Harmon Charlott married a young man who had just returned from the war, Edward Francis Beard. They where married in 1/9/1866 at Charlotte's home. There is a book in print which states that "Edward Beard to Charity Howard 1/9/1866 Residence of Charles A. Howard" when I checked the original records at the Probate office in Abbeville I found the mistakes. They had two sons Ephraim Edward and Robert Lee. In the 1880 Henry County census for Columbia - Crawford , MArcus was still living with them. Robert Lee was my great grandfather. Charlotte's daughter Elizabeth MArried Lafayette L. Douglas 1/26/1869 in Henry Co. They had four children in the 1880 census, Alonzo, Charlotte, Franklin, Mary. Charlotte was my Grandmother. She married William Marshall Cook 5/9/1897. She died July 30, 1936 and is buried at the Liberty Cemetery in Pansey. Her son was my father - Harmon Howard Cook.
