The most recent Jefferson County casualty in
Viet Nam was reported Thursday by the U.S.
Department of Defense. He is Spec. 5 O’Neal
Addison, 39, of West Ensley, Rt. 10. He would
have been 39 today. A career man in the Army,
Addison had served for 21 years. He was born in
Docena and reared in West Ensley. He attended
Gary – Ensley School. Smith and Gaston will
announce funeral arrangements in seven to 10
days. Spec. Addison is survived by his mother,
Mrs. Grace Brown; five brothers, Roosevelt
McClendon, George Brown and James Brown of West
Emsley and Mike and Mitchel Brown Jr. of New
York; and five sisters, Mrs. Mary Louise
McClendon of Birmingham, Mrs. Willie Ann Kidd
and Reatha Brown of West Ensley, Mrs. Katy Mae
Hill of Ensley and Mrs. Nancy Easton of New
York.

Funeral services for Vickie Joyce Capps,
4-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Capp
of Pleasant Grove, who was killed Friday in an
automobile accident near Tuscaloosa; were held
today at the Pike Avenue Church of God.
Burial was in Highland Memorial Gardens, Angwin
Mortuary Center directing.
Surviving, besides the parents, are a brother,
DeWayne Capps, and a sister, Mrs. Barbara
Gallups, also of Pleasant Grove.

William Cecil, 62, of 2816 38th Ave. No. died
Friday at his home after a three month illness.
Born in Tennessee, Mr. Cecil had lived in
Birmingham for 25 years.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Rose Cecil, a son
Kenneth Cecil of Birmingham, a daughter, Mrs.
Unalee Colbert of Philadelphia, Penn., two
sisters, Mrs. Lilly Bird of Robins, Tenn. and
Mrs. Zona Goad of Monticello, Kentucky, and a
brother James Cecil of Robins, Tenn.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m.
Sunday at Browns Service Norwood Chapel. Burial
will be in Walkers Chapel Cemetery near
Fultondale.

A Choctaw County native, Mrs. Coats was a member
of the Gulf Beach Baptist Church, West Panama
City Beach, Fla.
Survivors include two sons, Robert B. Coats,
Sunnyside, Fla., and Charles A. Coats Jr.,
Birmingham; a daughter, Mrs. Andrew B. Park,
Mountain Brook.

Former Prominent Forsyth Resident Dies in
Alabama
Mrs. Dan H. Green, of Birmingham, Ala., died
Sunday morning at the home of her son, Daniel
Green, following ill health of a year.
Following funeral services in Birmingham, the
body was brought to Forsyth for burial, which
was held Tuesday afternoon.
Mrs. Green and her husband, the late Daniel H.
Green, were both of prominent Monroe County
families. They lived in Forsyth during the
earlier part of the century and reared their
family here. Mr. Green was in the jewelry
business here many years, and owned and operated
Forsyth's first telephone exchange. He died in
1916, and shortly thereafter Mrs. Green went to
make her home with her children.
Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. A. D. Ewing, of
1038 Cleburne Avenue, Atlanta; five sons, John,
of New York, Stanton, Harold, Lewis and Daniel
Green, all of Birmingham; 14 grandchildren and
five great-grandchildren.

Simpson Hester, 79, long-time resident, who died
following an extended illness were held Friday
at Bethel Baptist Church. The Revs. Herman

Fatal Accident at Bessemer
Night Watchman at Foundry Found Dying from
Injuries Received on Head
Bessemer, Ala. Sept 16 - Last night about 8
o’clock E H Hosey, night watchman at the
Bessemer Foundry and Machine company, was found
in the foundry near some scaffolding with his
skull fractured and in an unconscious condition.
He was carried to his home in South Bessemer,
where he was given medical attention, but he
died in a short while after reaching home. It is
not known just how he was hurt, but it is
thought he fell off of the scaffold and struck
his head. Mr. Hosey was 65 years old and leaves
a widow and children. The funeral will be held
tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock from the
residence, the interment to be at the Sadler
cemetery.

died Friday. A Lifelong resident of Bessemer, he
worked at the U.S. Steel tin mill for 20 years.
He was a member of Westside Baptist Church.

Brown-Service Bessemer with burial at Cedar Hill
Cemetery. Survivors include his wife; a

Pinkney Hosey, 82, retired merchant.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. today at
Brown-Service Bessemer Chapel for Pinkney
LaFayette Hosey, 82, of 514 McAdory Ave.,
Bessemer, who died yesterday.
The Rev. Clyde Meredith officiated. Burial was
in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
A retired store manager and a member of the
Jonesboro Second Baptist Church, he was a
long-time Bessemer resident.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Curtis Hosey;
two daughters, Mrs. Clara Lowery and Mrs. Floyd
Keller; a brother, O. P. Hosey, all of Bessemer;
13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Florence Loretta Keenan Obituary
Miss Florence Keenan, the 20-year old daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Keenan died about noon
today at the family residence on Avenue C after
an illness of a few weeks. She has been a
sufferer for some time. Her condition was not
considered serious outside of the family circle
and her death came as a shock to her many
friends.
Miss Keenan was a devout member of St. Anthony's
church and took and active part in church work.
She sang in the choir and was ever ready to do
her part to further the work. She died
peacefully with the name of the Savior on her
lips. Her father was summoned from Gadsden and
arrived just a few moments before his daughter
passed away. The funeral will be held at St.
Anthony's church at 10 o'clock Monday morning.

native of Talladega County and lived here in
Bessemer many years. He was employed by American
Bridge Company and was a Mason and a Shriner and
a member of Bethlehem Methodist Church. Funeral
will be at 2:30 pm Saturday at Brown-Service
Bessemer. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Avenue, who died Sunday, was a Meridian,
Mississippi native and llived most of her life
in Birmingham. A retired office worker, she was
a member of the Methodist Church. Funeral will
be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Angwin Mortuary Center
with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Survivors

attack.

Presbyterian Church for Mrs. Rhoda Matilda
Williams, 67, of 3016 Ave. E, Ensley, who died
Saturday in a local hospital.
Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery, Angwin Mortuary
Center directing.
A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Mrs. Williams had
lived here 60 years. She was a member of Wylam
Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her husband, Paul L. Williams; a
daughter, Mrs. Wesley Montgomery, East
Liverpool, Ohio; a son, William J. Ellis,
Maitland, Fla., and two sisters, Mrs. Edward Day
Sr., Bessemer, and Mrs. Robert McConnakey, San
