Edgeworth, Mennie Lee Williams

DETROIT, Ala. - Mennie Lee Williams Edgeworth, 80, died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born Sept. 21, 1920, in Monroe County to the late Levi and Lillie Harris Williams. She attended Byrd School in Marion County, Ala. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Site Freewill Baptist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Otts Funeral Home Chapel in
Sulligent, Ala., with Bro. Larry Davis and Bro. Willie Atkins officiating. Burial will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Cecil Edgeworth of Detroit, Ala.; a son,
Leamon Edgeworth and wife, Dorothy, of Amory; a daughter, Sara Mays, and husband, Herman, of Greenwood Springs; three grandchildren, Michael Edgeworth and wife, Mary, of Smithville, Lana Cooper and husband, Ray, of Greenwood Springs, Daphne Clement and husband, Chuck, of Amory; five great-grandchildren, Breanna Edgeworth, Brittany Edgeworth, Jake Clement, Abby Clement and Macy Cooper; two sisters, Eunedith Hamilton of Adrian, Mich., and Sue Cantrell of Blissville, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Larry Glenn Edgeworth; a great-grandchild, Michael Lee Edgeworth; three brothers, Kirk Williams, Clarence Williams and Kenneth Williams; and two sisters, Exie Millican and Jeffie Rudicell.

Pallbearers will be Mike Edgeworth, Gary Millican, Ray Cooper, Chuck
Clement, Kenny Ballard and Tommy Edgeworth.

Gadell, Judy D. Allen

Obit in The Commercial Dispatch, Columbus, Mississippi

Vernon, Ala.- Judy D. Allen Gadell, 37, died May 12, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First Freewill Baptist Church with Joe Beckon and Mike Dankston officiating. Burial will be at Wofford Cemetery in Vernon.

Mrs. Gadell was born September 9, 1964 in Caledonia, MS to John D. Allen and Eva Allen of Vernon. She was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church and was a secretary at Trim Joist.

In addition to her parents, survivors include: her husband Arthur Gadell of Vernon, daughter Bethany Merchant and son, Phillip Merchant, both of Vernon and brothers David Allen of Caledonia, Jerry Allen of Vernon and Wesley Allen of Caledonia.

Jones, Cecil Tilman

Obit in Amory Advertiser November 16, 1961

Services for Cecil Tilman Jones, a resident of Amory for some 27 years, will be held at 2 PM Thursday at Wesley Chapel Methodist Church in Lamar County AL near Detroit, with Elder Grady McWhirter of Amory officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Pickle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. He was 61.

Mr Jones died at 10 AM Wednesday in Gilmore Memorial Hospital. He had been ill for several months and had been in and out of the hospital since last April.

A native of Lamar County Alabama, Mr Jones moved with his family to Splunge community of Monroe County in 1908. He was married to the former Miss Evie Rowell in 1924. They moved to Amory in 1934 and had made their home here since that time.

His parents were the late K C Jones and Sarah Francis Irvin Jones. He
was a member of the Church of Christ.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, K C Jones of Ft Worth
TX; a daughter Mrs Jack Cox of Amory; two brothers John A Jones of Amory and Farris Russell Jones of Greenwood; and nine grandchildren.

SULLIGENT, Ala. - Leona Carden Lewis, 99, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at the Beverly Health Care Center in Winfield, Ala. She was born Feb. 23, 1902, in Lamar County, Ala., to the late Samuel Robert and Adline King Carden. She was a member of the Taylor Spring Freewill Baptist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Otts Funeral Home Chapel in
Sulligent, Ala., with Bro. Edward Puckett and Bro. Scott Stokes
officiating. Burial will be in the Hollis Cemetery.

Survivors include three nephews, Fred Rushing and Jim Rushing, both of Sulligent, Ala., and James Carden of Amory; two nieces, Leverne Risner of Sulligent, Ala., and Gwyneth Dalton of Huntsville, Ala.; three
sisters-in-law, Avis Carden of Sulligent, Ala., and Bessie Lucas and
Flora Lucas, both of Vernon, Ala.; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Cleve Lewis; a sister, Sam Jane Rushing; a brother, Robert Carden; three infant brothers; and a niece, Gloria Lou Brown.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Rushing, Jamie Rushing, Brandon Crawford, Johnny Hulsey, Arron Hulsey and Bill Mason.

SULLIGENT, Ala. - Hattie Merchant, 74, of Sulligent, Ala., died
Saturday, July 28, 2001, in the Carraway Northwest Medical Center in Winfield, Ala. Born in Sulligent, Ala. [on December 13, 1926], she was the daughter of the late [William] Albert and Mary [Mae] McClendon Williams and the wife of the late Houston Merchant. She had lived in Sulligent all of her life and was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. She worked for McCoy Manufacturing Co.

Services will be 2 p.m. today from the Norwood Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tim Markham and Bro. Charles Wharton officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Norwood Funeral Home of Sulligent, Ala. is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include five daughters, Frances (Dale) Pennington of Hamilton, Janice (Matt) Dillard and Peggy (Doc) Dillard, all of Sulligent, Ala., Wanda (Paul) Markham of Beaverton, Ala. and Martha Dillard of Vernon, Ala.; two sons, Donald (Judy) Merchant of Smithville and James R. (Nancy) Merchant of Sulligent, Ala.; 19 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Ela Ray Cox, Fay Otts and Ophilla Wilson, all of Sulligent, Ala., Dorothy Pickle of Amory and Linda Ling of Gattman; a brother, Johnny Williams, of Winfield, Ala.

Rector, Mrs. Martin

MRS. MARTIN RECTOR
The death of Mrs. Martin Rector of Melbourn, AL will be learned with regret by Columbus [MS] friends.
   She had been in declining health for some time and her passing was not unexpected.
   Besides her husband she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Flora Mae [Gurley Mose] Sudduth of Melbourn.

Robertson, Sally Loftis

Sally Loftis Robertson, 87, died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at Lakewood Personal Care Home in Columbus, MS.

Services were Saturday, March 9, 2002, 2:00 pm at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Bobby Douglas officiating.  Visitation was one hour before the service.  Burial was in Friendship Cemetery in Columbus, MS.

Mrs. Robertson was born July 13, 1914, in Lamar County, Alabama to Andrew Charner and Sarah Mordecai Loftis.  She and her husband, Claude, built the first Ramada Inn in Columbus.  She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church.  She was preceeded in death by her husband, Claude B. Robertson; her brothers, Ted, W.T., Sr. and Spart Loftis and one sister, Lerah Cooper.

She is survived by her daughter, Melissa Crow, West Point, MS; grandson, Ben Jones, Shuqualak, MS; granddaughter, Jennifer Boydd, Ontario, CA; Nieces, Vivian Doughty, Columbus, MS, Ruth Gayle Pigue, Biloxi, MS and Mary Frances Stafford, Gulfport, MS; nephews, Ted Loftis, Starkville, MS, W.T. Loftis, Columbus, MS and Willette Duckworth, Aberdeen, MS and 4 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Ben Jones, Ted Loftis, Richard Doughty, James L. Glenn, III, W.T. Loftis, Carl Edwards and Sam Jones.

Honorary pallbearers were Loventrice Edwards, M.C. Edwards, Billy Thompson, Paul Cockrell, Harry and Betty Dowdle and Employees of Lakewood Personal Care Home, George Shalles, Dennis Harmon, Howell Austin, Arthur Amos, Members of the Arranging Class, Edith Browning, Edna Earle Loftis and W.R. Kidder, Jr.

Sulligent, Ala., is in charge of the arrangements. 

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Israel of Milan, Ill.; three
daughters, Lenetta Boyle of La Belle, Fla., Christina Hill of Guin,
Ala., and Amanda Williams of Winfield, Ala.; two sons, Joey Williams and Dale Williams, both of Arcadia, Fla., two stepsons, Jeremiah Israel of Rock Island, Ill., and Solomon Israel of Big Island, Ill.; seven
sisters, Hattie Merchant, Ella Ray Cox, Faye Otts and Ophelia Wilson,
all of Sulligent, Ala., Linda Ling of Gattman, Dorothy Pickle of Amory
and Willie Hester of Nettleton; and one brother, Johnny Williams of
Winfield, Ala.    [Burlie Vaughn was the son of William Albert Williams and Mary Mae McClendon.  He was born on January 18, 1933.]
