WESTMORELAND
Date: Mon, 5 Jul 1999 15:13:51 -0500
From: "Edgar D. Byler, III" edby3@netease.net
William WESTMORELAND was born in North Carolina "above New Bern" in either
1774/75 and was the youngest son and child of John and Ann "Nancy" Lenoir
Westmoreland. William married about 1800 in Spartenburg Co., SC to his first? wife whose
name is unknown. (could she have been an ALBERTY, daughter of Moses ALBERTY????). William
moved to Laurens Co., SC in 1818 and then to Catawba Co., AL in 1821/2 where he was
appointed a Captain in the Alabama militia by the Gov. Israel Pickens, husband of his
first cousin, Martha Lenoir Pickens.
It appears that William WESTMORELAND was in Lauderdale Co., Alabama by the
late fall of 1822 as his daughter?, Catherine, b. 1804, married her first husband Elias
HARRIS in Lauderdale Co., AL on 4 December 1822. Would like to find proof of children.
Here's what I have.
Probable children of William WESTMORELAND (1774/5-1854)
1. Amelia WESTMORELAND, b. ca. 1802, Spartenburg Co.,Sc, d. bef. 1870 Searcy Co.,AR,
married ca. 1820-22 to Mordicai THORNTON.
2. Catherine WESTMORELAND, b. ca. 1804, Spartenburg Co., Sc, d. after 1880, Wayne Co., TN,
m1) 4 December 1822, Lauderdale Co., AL to Elias HARRIS, m. 2) 18 Nov 1831, Lauderdale
Co., AL to Gillum H. WALKER; m. 3) 23 Oct 1835 Lauderdale Co.,AL to Abner GALLION.
3. Alberty WESTMORELAND, b. 1806/7 SC, m. 1) Wayne Co., TN by 1830 to Mary WILSON, m. 2)
Independence Co., AR 11 July 1849 to Martha TERRELL, m. 3)? bef. 1860 to Sarah ______.
Died poss. in Yell Co., AR after 1870.
4. Moses WESTMORELAND, b. 1810 (could poss. be same as no. 3)
5. girl, name unknown, b. ca. 1810-1815.
6. Nancy WESTMORELAND, b. 4 Dec 1814/7, d. 14 Sep 1891/5, Wayne Co., TN, married 23 Apr
1831 Lauderdale Co., AL to Denson WILSON (brother to Mary WILSON who married Alberty
WESTMORELAND)
7. girl, name unknown, b. ca. 1820-23 (this could poss. be Milly HOUSE who became
William's second wife?)
8. Jesse WESTMORELAND -no other info.
William WESTMORELAND's first? wife died between 1830 and 1833 and on 12 Aug 1833,
Lauderdale Co., AL William married Milly HOUSE who was born 1821 (per 1850 Wayne Co., TN
census, but more likely 1801 or 1811).
William sold his farm in Lauderdale Co., AL in 1836 and moved to Wayne Co.,TN where he
died we think in 1854. He is probably buried in the old Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery
on TN Wy 227 between Cypress Inn, TN and Railroad Church.

HILL - THIGPEN
Date: Mon, 12 Jul 1999 17:04:45 EDT
From: JerryDWebb@aol.com
The book, "A Walk Through The Past," by William L. McDonald refers to an
Augustus Henry HILL on page 96. His son Fred A. HILL owned a service station and Augustus
was a plumber in Florence, Lauderdale County, Alabama. Henry Augustus HILL (note the name
reversal) was my ggrandfather. He married Martha Jane THIGPEN in 1885 and they moved
to Texas in the mid 1890s. He was a farmer.
A second reference is of a John HILL who owned a cotton gin in Florence, Lauderdale
County. I am in the cotton gin business and naturally had an immediate interest of the
possibility of my early Hills being in the same business. Does any one know anything of
these Hills or their families? Thanks.

My name is Sally Brace. I am researching the James JACKSON family that moved to
Lauderdale County from Nashville, TN, in 1818. They built the "Forks of Cypress"
plantation and raised 10 children. They had a racetrack on the plantation. James JACKSON
was an immigrant from Ireland and he died in 1840.
Sarah MOORE McCULLOCH JACKSON was born in 1790 in North Carolina and came from a
distinguished Moore line. She lived at the "Forks" until her death in 1879.
I am interested in talking with anyone who knows about this family or who is researching
this same line. James and Sally's youngest son George Moore JACKSON is my link. He married
Sarah Cabell PERKINS whose sister Elizabeth PERKINS married George's brother James

PERRYMAN
Date: Mon, 23 Aug 1999 20:54:36 EDT
From: MarsaH@aol.com
My Great Grandmother was Martha L. PERRYMAN b. 1857 in Lamar County Texas (probably near
Garretts Bluff). Martha first married H.M FURGUESON in 1873, then my great
Grandfather, Charles A. MILLIGAN in 1879.
Her father was Andrew Jackson PERRYMAN, born 1814 in Florence, Lauderdale County Alabama.
At least one wife was W.G. GILLEY. He died in 1862 in Lamar County, Tx. He had two
brothers, Austin (Astin) and Alexander PERRYMAN presumably born in AL.
Andrew Jackson PERRYMAN donated the land for the Perryman Cemetery in Lamar
County, which is now known as Mt Vernon Cemetery.
Any help in locating Andrew Jackson PERRYMAN's parents will be much appreciated.
Many thanks,
Marsa HIGHTOWER
