BROWN CEMETERY

From Florence, go East on US 72; Right on County Road 31; and Right on County Road 417 for one block to its end at Andy Thompson’s house. The cemetery is behind their house in the left woods beside the second pasture. Get permission and specific directions from the family. The legal description is Section 34 Township 2 Range 9.

William BROWN died May 10, 1831, aged 38 yrs. [born cir.1793] – A stone mason and native of Ireland.

Maryann SMITH departed Sept. 7th, 1834, aged 6 years and 7 months [born cir. Feb 1828].  – No more this pleasant child is seen to please the parents eye the tender plant so fair and gay lays in eternity.

Ronald Pettus, historian of Killen, AL says that stone masons from several countries came to Lauderdale Co AL about 1830 to work on the original canal around the Muscle Shoals.
