CODY CEMETERY
[also known as: Brush Arbor Cemetery]
Surveyed by Orlan Irons - 6 Mar 1990
To reach this cemetery from Florence, take Cox Creek Parkway and turn northwest onto AL 20 (Savannah Highway); go 14.9 miles and turn right on Lauderdale 8; go 1.0 mile to the cemetery. The cemetery is on the left side of the road, about 15 yards from the road in a wooded section. The 5 graves that have markers, have a barb wire fence around them. There looks like it might be one or two sunken places near this fence, that could be unmarked graves. I asked 3 different people, if they knew the name, and they did not know. I used the name CODY, because all of the markers are CODY. This cemetery is not listed on any map that I could find. The legal description is SW4, SW4, Sec 11, T1s, R13w.

John J. Cody, b. 1817, d. 1886, married Kizzarh (Kesiah) E. Shelton, in Maury Co., TN on 10 Dec 1836. He was in Perry Co., TN in 1850, Wayne Co., TN 1860 - 1880. John married 2) Cyrena Blasingame in Lauderdale Co., AL 27 Dec 1849. Cyrena was a daughter of William Nathaniel Blasingame of Cypress Inn (not the other one in Iron City). Ol' Billy was b. 1786, d. after 1880 census at Cypress Inn and is buried, with tombstone, in a cemetery we have not been able to locate. Ol' Billy's first, second and third wives are supposed to be buried with him along with about 20+ additional marked graves. Blasingame was veteran of 1812 and drew a pension. His widow drew pension into the 1900's. Ol' Billy's last child was born 1877.
