McVAY - MOORE CEMETERY

Surveyed by Orlan Irons, 27 Jan 1989

There is a sign on the gate that reads McVay-Moore Cemetery, but an earlier listing had Moore Cemetery as the name.
To reach this cemetery, turn north off Cox Creek Parkway, onto Mars Hill Road, go 1.2 miles to Rushton St., turn left and go 0.2 miles. there is a sign here that reads Global Fixture Shipping & Receiving. Turn left down beside Global Fixtures and go 0.1 mile. You can see the cemetery to your right, about 75 yards away. It has several large pine and cedar trees on the inside of it, and a chain link fence around it. This is a beautiful cemetery, and very old. It is fairly well taken care of. Hugh McVay, Governor of Alabama in 1837, is buried here. The legal description for the cemetery is N24, SW4, S24, T2S R11w.
