NOLEN CEMETERY

This cemetery is listed on the 1987 Lauderdale County Highway Map as the Nolen Cemetery. Mr. Nolen, who lives near the cemetery, said he had always heard it called the Emory Cemetery.

To reach this cemetery, turn north off Cox Creek Parkway, onto AL 17 (Chisholm Road), go 11.9 miles; turn left on Lauderdale 11, go 1.7 miles; turn right on a gravel road  [now County Road 139] and go 0.1 mile. the cemetery is on the right side of the road. There is a gate here you can drive through and go o.1 mile on a dirt road, or you can walk 100 yards to the cemetery. The cemetery is in an open field and can easily be seen from the road or the gate. There is a 4 strand barb wire fence around this cemetery attached to steel posts, is probably is an acre or more in size. All of the tombstones are close together, with the exception of one over in the corner. There are holes in places where there are not any tombstones, throughout the cemetery. There may be several people buried here, without markers. The legal description for this cemetery is NW4, NE4, Sec 9, T1s, R11w.
