LILLIE CATES
[UNKNOWN NO. 20]
This picture was found in Rosa Ella (NEWTON) JOICE's (my grandmother) trunk. It is signed on the back "From sister to brother" and because of that, we think it is possible that it is a picture of Lillie or Ida KATE/CATE/CATES, a half-sister to my grandfather Emmett E. JOICE who grew up near Lexington, Al. We hope someone recognizes her or has the same picture so we will know who she is. Peggy Joice Horton - Contributor.
This is a picture of LILLIE CATES, b. March 21, 1881, d. March
29, 1961, daughter of
MARY JANE (JACKSON) JOICE CATES, and a half sister to E. E. JOICE,
my
grandfather. LILLIE married THOMAS (TOMMY) THOMPSON on January 11,
1904,
and raised her family in or near Birmingham, Alabama.
"This picture was identified when Donna Sweatman responded to a query
that led to the correct identification by Linda Hadder, both
great-granddaughters of LILLIE and great-great granddaughters of MARY JANE
JACKSON.
