Frank Pickett was an African-American gospel singer and composer, possibly born in 1888 near the Walton plantation in Limestone County. He served in
France during WWI and was interviewed by Allen Tullos of The University of North
Carolina. He went to Washington for the Centennial celebration there. His
taped interview and some of his songs are in The Tullos Collection at UNC.
Frank worked for Dr. Anderson on Limestone Creek for some years. Early-on,
he worked on the crews that cleared trees for Wheeler Lake in the TVA system. I
grew up listening to Frank at Zion AME Church singings near Mooresville.
I'm hoping to gather enough information to get him added to The Alabama
Music Hall of Fame.
