Robinson Cemetery

This is a small family cemetery located on Robinson Rd north of Elkmont.  Go north on Hwy 127 out of Athens. Turn right on Upper Fort Hampton Rd at Elkmont.  Go through down town Elkmont, then straight onto Veto Rd at the gin.  Follow Veto Rd approximately 2 miles and turn right onto Robinson Rd.  Approx. 1 mile is a trailer on the left with chicken houses in the back yard.   Park your car or cross the creek if you have a four wheel drive vehicle.  Follow the farm road around to the back of the field, then back around to the cemetery on the left (headed back toward the main road).

One of the grandsons still lives on this land and stated that Hesakiah Robison came to this area from North Carolina.  This land has been in the family since he arrived here in the early 1800's.  We noted several different spellings of the Robinson name - the spellings shown below are not misprints.

Weir Cemetery

Located in the western area of the county.  From Athens, take Hwy 72 west.  Turn right (north) onto Parker Rd and cross New Cut Rd.  Turn left onto Glass Hollow Rd.

The main roadway of Glass Hollow gives way to a somewhat rutted out dirt road and goes back 1/4 to ˝ mile before being fenced off.  From here, you hike . . .  Following the dirt road way bear to your right when you cross the creek bed.  About 100 yards past a green, covered watering trough will be an older rutted out road that leads up the hillside to your left.  You will also see a chimney with mantel on this hillside.  Don’t know what happened to the original house around it. Continue on this road to the top of the hill, then follow the tree line until the tree line begins to bear back to your left.  At this point you will notice a path bearing back to your right.  Follow this path about 50 yards.  The cemetery is on your right.  For those of you who have/know how to use a GPS, the coordinates for this cemetery are latitude N 34 49 51.7, longitude W 87 07 25.1 .  Good luck!  We were very disappointed to find this cemetery virtually destroyed by the cows which have been allowed to graze this area.  At one time, a cable had been placed, but is now on the ground.
