I'm descended from Henry English, one of his sons. Henry went to Texas
with his wife's family in the early 1840's. Her father was Jonathan
Blair. From Alabama Records, Volume 114, Limestone County:
December 24, 1840 Elbert H. English, admr. of James English, filed his
accounts.
February 8 1841 Elbert H. English "who deposes and says he is not
directly nor indirectly interested in the division of the estate of James
English dec'd" states Henry English, one of the heirs, received as advance
of a negro boy in 1837, and some money; that Calvin McCracken husband of
Amanda English received in the lifetime of James English, by way of
advancement, about 1832, a negro woman and child.
February 10, 1841 Elbert H. English, administrator of James English
dec'd, petitions for sale of land: heirs are Nancy English the widow of the
deceased, Elbert H. English (34, Ala, 1850, Pulaski Co, Ark), William K.
English, Henry English, Noah T. English (29, Ala., 1850 Jefferson Co. Ark.),
Alfred English, Cyrus English, Mary English now the wife of Clay Stinett,
and the heirs of Wesley English (and ?) said Manda McCracken dec'd late
Amanda English and wife of Calvin McCracken.
John C. Spotswood is appointed guardian of Alfred English, infant child
of James English dec'd with Elbert H. English and Samuel DeWoody sureties.
John C. Spotswood is appointed guardian of Cyrus English, infant child of
James English dec'd with Elbert H. English and Samuel DeWoody sureties.
John C. Spotswood is appointed guardian of Martha S. McCracken, infant
child of Calvin McCracken; Elbert H. English and Samuel DeWoody, sureties.
John C. Spotswood is appointed guardian of Rocksanna W. McCracken, infant
child of Calvin McCracken, with Elbert H. English and Samuel DeWoody his
sureties. (Also of Nancy E. McCracken, infant child of Calvin McCracken,
with same sureties.)
John C. Spotswood is appointed guardian of John W. McCracken, infant
child of Calvin McCracken, with Albert H. English and Samuel DeWoody as
sureities. (Also he is appointed guardian of Mary Amanda McCracken and
James Elbert McCracken, infant children of Calvin McCracken, with the
same sureties.)
March 16, 1841 The application of Calvin McCracken shows that he has been
duly appointed guardian of Nancy E., Martha S., Roxannah W., John W, James
E. and Mary A. McCracken, heirs of said McCracken, by the Probate Court of
Lowndes Co., Miss. John C. Spotswood is ordered to deliver to him all
property of said wards.
September 13, 1841 Elbert H. English, administrator of James English
dec'd petitions to sell land. The heirs of Amanda McCracken (formerly Amanda
English). William H. English and Henry J. English are non-residents of the
state.
October 11, 1841 Clay Stinnett, the guardian of Andrew Jackson Stinnett
and Virginia R. Stinnett gives new bond with Elbert H. English, Noah D.
English and Ruffin C. Stinnett as his sureties.
October 15, 1841 Clay Stinnett, guardian of Nicholas D. Stinnett, files
accounts; also files his accounts as guardian of Thomas B. Stinnett.
November 10, 1841 Nancy English (widow of James) hath died intestate.
Letters of administration issued to Noah D. English (29, Ala, 1850 Jefferson
Co., Ark) with Elbert H. English and John C. Spotswood sureties.
