Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Griggs born Nov. 28, 1862, died Nov. 27, 1940. She lacked
only one day being 78 years old. She was born near Brooks, Ga. and moved to
Alabama in 1888, settling near Woodland Mills, Morgan County. She lived
there for about eight years and then moved to Oleander, Marshall County,
living theresome 42 years, and then moving near Arab where she has resided
for the past 7 years. Her husband, James N. Griggs, preceeded her in death
about 25 years.
Survivors are as follows: Five sons, R. L., Gadsden; Jesse, Arab; Everett,
Union Grove; James S., Union Grove; William T., Fort Monroe, Virginia; and three
daughters, Mrs. Nannie Morrow, Arab, Mrs. Dovey Whisenant, Cullman; Mrs. Pearl Furgurson,
Winkler, Texas, who was unable to come on account of ill health.
She has 31 grand-children and 11 great grand-children to survive her.
She has been a member of the Missionary Baptist Church for 51years.
